Question Good Memory From Crucial Using Same Chips As OCZ EB.

"We confirmed that Crucial is indeed using a new Micron "G" die chip for Ballistix 3200. This is the first time that we have seen this die in a production memory, but we have seen the "C" die version of this same memory chip in the excellent OCZ 3500EB and 3700EB. Since EB has also shown excellent performance and timings to over DDR500, it is no real surprise to see Crucial using a later version of the same chip in their Ballistix 3200."

    from Anandtech.

    interesting

Wow, those crucials look fantastic. 2.5-2-2-5 at 257mhz with only 2.85v?!

    yes, they do look amazing.

    PS.

I can't believe we posted the same thing so damn close to each other. as soon as I saw the review I was amazed.

they sound great, but OCZ 3200 looks pretty good too for very high FSB's.

    EDIT:

I was just looking around if newegg has this ram.
    they dont.

but you can buy it directly from Crucial.com for $130 a stick, thats for a 512 stick, which isn't too bad at all if you ask me.

Man, that Crucial surpasses OCZ EB PC3700 at DDR500 like standing. Sure, this review looks tasty. However, as I wrote in my thread, the user experiences so far have not been the most positive ones:

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...threadid=39329

And some stuff from pcperspective.com as well:

Has anyone put this ram into an A64 board?

The only memory that duplicated the Intel results on Athlon 64 was the Crucial Ballistics PC3200, based on Micron chips. Across the entire range from DDR400 to DDR514, the Ballistix performed at the same voltages and timings that it displayed on the Intel test bed. This performance reminds us that Micron memory chips are also used in OCZ 3500EB and 3700EB, which also perform as well on Athlon 64 as they do on an Intel board.

Im gonna get some The prices compared to the EB are amazing.

Question: Are the Ballistix 3200 guaranteed to do 260Mhz X-2-2-X? (voltage doesn't matter as I got a booster).\

    Thanks!

nothings garaunteed past the default speed.

so no, nothing is garaunteed past 400, from there, like always, it's just luck, skill and persistance.

Sound promissing so far i suggest to buy a-data which are also
worth the small money but the crucial could be a good alternative
good that i did not buy new ram until now.

is it this one what you are talking about?crucial pc3200

I know that... But i meant a higher version than pc3200... Like 3500 or 3700... And user experience... PC4000 goes 99% over 250... Right?? Hehe...

OCZ EB is still in production and it seems it will not be stopped anytime soon. Search around the forums, this topic has been covered a number of times already.

    Crucial Ballistix: Micron 5B-G chips.
    OCZ EB: Micron 5B-C chips.

    All Kill3r,

What mother board are going to be using the Ballistix on?

I would really like to see someone else's results....

I plan on removing the heatspreaders and try using a fan blowing across them and see if they improve...

    Guys

I have been looking at the Balistix and it does seem Wesley was sent some very cherry modules there, even the comments section on the review has people questioning whether the micron was cherry.

We have C and G, C is still better, when G is better than C we will move to it.

I have read now 5 forum threads on different forums all showing EB still doing a lot better than the balisitix....if you want proof my DFI thread at the top of this page has me doing ddr600 at 3.1v 3-2-2-0 with 3500.

    its still worth looking into.

they always say when ram does well.
I remember when they used to say that about OCZ and were still screaming about "relabled ram", but look at OCZ today
