Question Is there a way to flash my SSD without having to reinstall everything?

    Hi guys,

I have an OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD and I would like to update the firmware.

I use it as main drive so it has my windows 7 installation and all programs etc.

Is there a way to flash without having to reinstall everything? A step by step guide would be most appreciated! Some way to make a full disk backup and restore it maybe?

    Thanks in advance!

Not all firmware flashes are destructive. It depends what version you are currently on. See: http://www.guru3d.com/news/ocz-verte...h-15-firmware/

If you must do a destructive flash, you can pick up a copy of Acronis True Image 2012 for about $20 on sale. Use it to clone your boot drive to a backup drive. Flash the boot drive, then use the backup clone to recover your boot drive.

Acronis True Image will make a image of your whole drive OS/app/everything. Once this image is created you flash your SSD to 1.5 then restore the image back to your your SSD thats it. When your restore the image you will have everything (data/apps/os) back to the way it was.

only on raid u have to delete with single drives you can flash without reinstalling BUT in case u are in doubt do this

    1) install acronis TRUE IMAGE HOME LATEST VERSION
    2) CREATE a rescue USB or DISC wich will let you BACKUP and RESTORE from BOOT, it will also make your flashdrive bootable
    3) CREATE image to another HDD using the flashdrive you just created
    4) Apply firmware to SSD (then try if it boots if it does just use your PC)
    5) HDDERASE your SSD with HDDERASE or PARTEDMAGIC
    6) use the flashdfive to restore the image from HDD

    guide for use parted magic

    1) download the program
    http://www.pendrivelinux.com/univers...easy-as-1-2-3/

    2) download the image
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/part...6.iso/download

    3) select as this pic
    http://img.ozeros.com/guias/2011/ago...tear_ssd/2.png

    4) wait till it completes

    5) enter BIOS and select IDE then boot with the flash drive and go to ERASE DISK, if you get an error that disk is frozen just hot plug the SSD (take off the current of SSD wait some seconds and plug again), and retry

    hope it goes all well
    cheers

windows 7 has a built in tool that is better for a compete wipe and dropping an image. %SystemRoot%\System32\control.exe /name Microsoft.BackupAndRestore

i guess i was to late.
