Question Suggestions on Stable Motherboard, CPU and Memory

    Hi guys,

Now I've been looking around a lot of posts and trying to find out what would be a good combination for me.

I need to build a new computer as my old one is running on water and I wanted something with less maintenance needed.

So I'm going to be buying a new computer case, motherboard, Ram and CPU.

I just need some help or suggestions as to what you guys would recommend.

I mainly need my new rig to be stable and fast (I know these are very generic terms) but I will not be over-clocking at all I want to just buy a good speed CPU and stable ram which will be compatable with a decent motherboard.

The computer will mainly be used for office work, surfing the net, movies and some games (nothing too graphical intensive)

Any advice on a good motherboard, Ram and CPU would be greatly appreciated.

Don't waste your money on expensive ram unless you're benching. In the activities you mentioned you'll always benefit more from capacity than from speed.

why are u guys suggesting that $200 board, it is overkill for not overclocking.]

i would get this combo with an asrock extreme4 if you are leaving the window open to overclocking
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboD...t=Combo.975453

if it is going to be for office work and video playing only i would go amd and get this

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813138333

for ram on ether get something cheap, it dose not matter

and for a case i really like the fractal cases, they have alot of sound dampening and are high build quality.

    Hi guys,

Thanks for your help I really appreciate it.

Ok what I'll be going with is the following:

Case = Fractal Design Define R3 Titanium Case
    CPU = Intel Core i5 3570K 3.4GHz Socket 1155 6MB Cache
Mobo = Asus P8Z77-V Socket 1155 VGA DVI DisplayPort HDMI 8 Channel Audio ATX Motherboard
    Mem = G-Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1600Mhz RipjawsX Memory Kit CL9 (9-9-9-24) 1.5V

I couldn't find the suggested memory that some of you gave, so I went with the above does anyone have any idea how good or bad the G-Skill DDR3 1600Mhz would go with my motherboard?

All I need is something stable and relatively fast.

that gskill kit will be fine, alot of people are getting the samsung LV kits and ocing them so you could look for that, they are also bare so they run cooler but you have to be more careful not to static them

also, is that the $190 asus board, it seams like a waste as it is over priced when compared to asrock and GB and that price range is overkill for you needs. have you looked at going matx you can get a solid board still and make it take up less space, if you really want asus going for the maximus V gene seams better and its $10 more than what you were looking at and micro

Thanks for the suggestion Zanzabar, but E-buyer (my computer supplier) doesn't seem to have the same one you mentioned in stock: http://www.ebuyer.com/search?q=ASUS+Maximus&x=0&y=0

I think I'll just stick to the Asus P8Z77-V

Maybe because i5 is on the rational side with requirements imposed.

First get a free Virtual machine: Virtual Box https://www.virtualbox.org/ OR a separate HDD for Linux.

    Then load Linux http://downloadlinuxfree.com/

    Linux for Dummies book http://www.amazon.com/Linux-For-Dumm.../dp/0764579371

Linux users have several issues with lack of support for hardware components, especially recent vidcards and sound cards. If you're a Gamer, support is limited.

Ok I'll stick to windows then lol

What about going for the i7 instead of the i5? I'm willing to pay the extra dosh for the i7 if it's worth the difference.

Sure, I was just pointing out that the i5-3550 was the best bang for the bucks for a non-OCer.

the i5 and i7 are basically identical in hardware, the i7 has hyper threading enabled and costs about 40-50% more (atleast in the US), unless you do alot of crunching or video encoding the i7 offers nothign over the i5. getting a socket fm1 amd apu may even be better for you since you do not need a graphics card but that would get you a gpu and a cpu for less than the i5, it would decode video better since it could be done in shader instead of hardware codec. the downside is that amd cpus are slower but the a6 and a8 are currently based on the old core and not the BD module so they are faster core for core than the new amd chips. you also get basic gaming support with amd and you get not getting to play anything without lagging on intel.

    Thanks for the help guys,

I think I'll be going with the i5 unless I can find a decently priced i7.

As for motherboard I'll do a bit more research to see what would suite my needs best.
