    140mm fan suited for HX850

    Hey guys,

the fan in my Corsair HX850 is driving my nuts. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just by far the loudest thing in my system, so I can't RMA it, etc. I've done a fan swap before in my VX550 and it did wonders.

I'm looking for a silent 140mm fan with a low starting voltage, would be great if somebody could help me out.

I would check out the Scythe fans. Their 140mm fans are awesome and virtually noiseless @ 5v (see below), and their 120mm fans are great too. Have never gone wrong with them yet!

    Thanks for the reply!

Looking at the 1200 and 1700 RPM model Slip Streams, they seem to be farily good fans. The 1700 RPM model starts at 2.5v as well, which is great for a PSU.

The Scythe fans have 120mm fan mounts though so I have to see if I can mount them in my HX850. They're also sleeve bearings which isn't optimal since the fan will be mounted horizontally. Luckily, they're not so expensive.

I also wonder if it's possible to attach the PSU fan to my fan controller and just make it run at a constant 800-1000 RPM instead of modding it to fit the PSU's 2-pin connector.

    Questions, questions, questions...

i guess u have a problem im runing (look my system) and never heard such noise...either its your drawing too much power or your fan aint right

DONT use fan controller if you get a fan get as the mate above says or a YATE LOON but dont regulate it

    Just my words

    Best of lucks

I've decided to order a 2-pin to 3-pin adapter cable so that I won't have to do any modding to my fans (don't even own a soldering iron).

Right now I'm also looking mostly at the Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro-Series PK2 or PK3, which spin at 1200 and 1700rpm and have a starting voltage around 4v. They have a much better availability here in Switzerland than the Scythes for some reason.

    Buy a soldering iron.

    Then get fans.

I get what you're saying, but I'd rather stick on an adapter than firmly solder something in place if the adapter works just as well.

But I do need a soldering iron.

I went ahead and swapped the stock fan for a Noiseblocker BlackSilentPro-Series PK2 last night. Excellent fan, I can't hear my PSU fan anymore. I used the stock fan's 2-pin and ghetto modded it onto my PK2, completely happy with the result.

Now I have to do something about my 5 HDDs that are now the loudest thing in the system.
