Thread: Asrock P67 Extreme4 UEFI & Drivers thread [Extreme6 & Pro3 owners welcome]

To elaborate on what Asrock tech support meant its a simple case of some monitors have weird separate skewed resolution settings until they hit the login screen where the monitor switches to its native resolution. You can usually fix the issue by simply pausing the boot process at the splash screen and adjusting the height and width options on your monitor settings until the splash screen completely fills the screen.
...unless you have a monitor that doesn't (for some obscure reason) disable your screen height and width options. *ahem* Note to self: stop buying cheap monitors! Thanks for the clarification on this! +1

Oh, and in terms of age of the chipset, while the P67 can't be considered new anymore there's still not a lot of differences between the P67 and Z77 The biggest are no PCI-E 3.0 or ability to use the on-die IGPU. Those really are the only major differences. Technically there isn't even any reason why any P67 mobo can't have a UEFI update letting it support IB CPUs, you just won't get the PCI-E 3.0. Intel as they are though will probably forbid any such UEFI update so people have to buy a Z77.
That wouldn't surprise me about Intel; but not a problem anyway, since it seems like the best time to do a system refresh is 2-3 years after the release of your current mobo when technology again offers the biggest bang for your buck.

Perhaps thats true where you are, but sadly in the UK bang for buck is non-existant at this time Everything has over-inflated prices by £10-20 which may not seem like a whole lot but by the time you have postage costs on that as well you are spending a extra £30-40 (if you are buying items from different places, which is usually the case for most people because its rare a single etailer has all the stuff you want) and thats equivillent to a pretty good night out in town!

    Well...well.. L3.02 beta BIOS for Extreme4.
Supports Intel's next generation 22nm CPU.
To support Intel's next generation 22nm CPU, corresponding BIOS, and drivers update are required.
Click here to download required Intel ME

    * After updating this BIOS, please flash newer versions only.
If it ain't broke... fix it until it is.

Good to see intel aren't forbidding UEFI updates to support their new CPUs for a change. I have a sneaky feeling intel are allowing it because they know first batch retail IBs are iffy and they want as many sales as possible though

Good news indeed--though us original Extreme4 owners lack the next-gen PCI-E 3.0 support that the Gen3 mobo has..? Perhaps there are some other nice improvements in the UEFI that will make it worthwhile?

Sadly true for South Africa too (I have some friends over there). Shipping costs are highly prohibitive to getting good hardware.

Honestly, PCI-E 3.0 will only benefit you if you have a GTX680 or HD7990 or multiples of them in the same system. Otherwise PCI-E 2.0 is fine. I'll be waiting a few weeks probably before I get a Z77 E6, I'll be damned if I'm going to give in to the "have it nows" I may be a unofficial Asrock rep with some contacts but I still have to pay for most of my hardware

I wondered about that--Linus of NCIX/LinusTechTips was saying that even the monster(!) ASUS MARS2 Dual GTX 580 card doesn't even fully saturate the PCI-E 2.0 bus:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiaQD0AAMnk

So (forgive my ignorance) but how though does PCI-E 3.0 become available on an original Extreme4 without the special hardware that the Gen3 has?

    Who said it does?
Ivy Bridge don't require PCIE 3.0 motherboard to work.

    You misunderstand something.

Yep, with Non-gen3 boards Ivy will just work in "backward compatibility" essentially, using PCI-E 2.0 as normal.

Well, it has been withdrawn by Asrock until it is run through quality assurance. This means that it has not been fully tested before release.
    Asrock is a joke.

    1. Don't troll.
    2. Theres a reason why the UEFI had a BETA tag.

"Beta" for P67 Extreme4 couldn't have been installed at all (file not detected) and for some Z68 boards people report bugs in memory handling / wrong XMP profiles recognition.

Those new UEFI were something like pre alpha not Beta. Huge false start this time.

I'm using beta UEFI 2.02 on the Z68 I have, absolutely no issues. Haven't had chance to try the beta UEFI for the P67 yet as its not set up atm. Also, if anyone couldn't flash to the UEFI via instant flash because it wasn't recognised, just change the flie extension to .rom or .bin. I had to do that a couple of times way back when I was testing the P67.

I don't want to damage my motherboard just becasue ASRock failed at doing their job.

Its just a file extension quirk with unrecognised UEFI files. When/if I get chance I will flash the P67 with the beta UEFI but thats unlikely to be for a few weeks at least.

L3.03 locked my 2600K, lost ram xmp as part of the lock, is there any way to fix this?

Reverting to older UEFI doesn't fix it.

No problems with UEFI 2.02 I've tested on the Z68, as reverting to a older UEFI doesn't solve your issue its well worth doing a full CMOS reset by removing the power cord, battery and setting the CMOS jumper to the "clear" position.

No, just the clear CMOS button at the back. Can you kindly tell me how to do it?

Edit: just saw ket's post, I can remove the power cord, but I'll have to find the others.
