He won't draw more than 1000-1200 total..probably less but it's how it's split..
The vid cards at least to me are what changes the equation and thats why I'd put them on the 1200w PSU
Maybe add the WC setup with them on that PSU

Interested is seeing just how far the BCLK can be upped on this board. I know 105 - 108 maybe but would just like to confirm.

What's to confirm? 105 Should go ok, anything above that is puuuuuuuuuuuuure gravy and almost meaningless in what it will give you!
Guys, you want OC's on the new chips?

    I know Dave.

They are not going to give us Xeons with unlocked multis or BCLKing like on SR-2. The market for those chips is completly different than what we use them for, except a few people like you and I.

Even if they did there is simply to few motherboards that could even do it... like 2, maybe 3 if you count Giga's board but those never come up for sale over here.

You know about the governor circuit that prevents any OC's anyway so again we are only looking at 2 boards. No others have BIOS support for OCing so again 2 boards only.

I am desperate to get dual cpu boards that OC and also have IMPI and that is not going to happen.

ASUS has two boards, one that can OC but limited RAM slots and no IMPI. The other has much greater RAM slots ability plus a bunch of server stuff but cannot OC so you can see where that is going.

Yea, but the reality between 100 and what? 105-6 is nothing si get the board with the other features you need and..

This leads me to a question.

I was planning to run the following: (only listing the power sucking items)

    2x 2687w
    1x Quadro 5000
    2x EVGA GeForce 580 3GB Classified Hydro
    2x swiftech pumps
    4-5 7200RPM Drives

Was previously planning to run a Corsair AX1200 as the mains power supply, CPU, case items, board, etc, and then a secondary AX850 to push the PCI-E cable power to the cards.

    Therefore my options are:

    1) Run everything off the AX1200, freeing up space for 2 instead of 1 480 rad.
    2) Run both PSU's as planned and try to run both 580's and both CPU on one 480 rad.
    3) Get the top extension for MH10 so I can run a 480 rad on the board side as well <--would try to avoid since it adds height

Can an AX1200 handle that system reasonably? I don't want to run the PSU balls-out all the time either. Rig will not be used for gaming, only rendering and some GPU calculations.
there is an enermax that does 1500W

If your a OEM or maybe even a person with a huge bank account I am sure Intel could do what ever you want. I wonder how much $'s it cost them for Intel to whip a batch of these up.

The big problem with this mobo is you must use ing low clocked Xeon's. ( And high priced )

    ...

So i think for the price, it's better to have one CPU and a waterchiller.

Depends. For what i do, it scales almost linearly, so cores x Ghz is what matters.

Still not paying $2000 for 8 cores that are not even clock at 3.6GHz. At least with Westmere-EP there were chips that were clocked at the same speed as desktop counter parts with 2 QPI links. I want to OC with registered ECC memory like I can with Westmere-EP. SB-EP is a joke right now minus the E5-2643. For single cpu setups What's with only the 1660 out and about? There's no retail 1640 or 1620. Thanks AMD for giving up on the x86 market!!!

    34x105=3570 so close to 3.6GHz
Westmere did have cpu's that were close to the desktop cpu's but only close and if you look close at what was available the speeds were all dependant on the amount of cores involved.
Heck Intel even made a Westmere that was closked at 4.4GHz, the X5698 but it was only 2 cores with the other 4 disabled and even Supermicro showed a system with a pair of thos clocjed at 4.8GHz..Yes, Supermicro! LOL
Quads went up to 3744 with the X5687's
Cores and heat generated is what decided what was available and thats the case here.
Also there are no 8 core desktop chips and my guess and say guess is that when you go from 6 core to 8 Intel ran into big heat problems.
Last, there hasn't ever been a Registered ECC memory stick that would OC more than a tiny amount.
You can buy DDR3-1600 ECC memory but not Registered and even that is tough to find and very limited in who makes it.
Back to cpu's, It's all cores and heat my friend and Intel has been telling us for years not in statements but by what they offer what they consider to be acceptable.
The problem is that we don't build cookie-cutter systems with weak cooling and because of that we disagree with their thinking.
I'm also wondering if there would be issues with the boards themselves providing the voltage needed to power these at 4250-4500MHz but thats a small consideration and moot point as long as the chips are locked tighter than " a Cow's arse at fly time!"

Yeah those 4.4ghz westmeres clocked by Intel looked like stock settings when they dropped them in so the governor circuit would think all is good.

I think your right about the power circuits on server motherboards and being able to handle what OC's we would like to see.

I meant clocked stock wise... Like how the Xeon X5690 is the dual qpi version on the 990X. Where is the dual QPI version of the 3960X???

Most ram clockers here only care about benchmarks. My registered memory OCs from 1333 (666Mhz) to 1600 (800Mhz) just great I'm using 6x8GB dimms. On Westmere I'm limited more by the Dram:fsb ratio when running a fsb of 190 I have to use 4:1 because it take too much VTT to get get to 5:1 linpack stable. Besides this is moot with SB-e since you can clock the memory independently of the chip.

    I stand corrected and ..
Last ECC REG memory I tried to OC was DDR2 and got very little from it..

First bench. All stock except i upped BCLK to 105. Needs tuning but that will have to wait until tomorrow.

    ha!

Sorry not trying to steal the moviemans thunder.

Will post some pics when have a chance. First time working with Case Labs. MH10 easily my favorite case to work with of all time. Makes my old 800D gaming system look pretty sad.
