Thanks to this thread OP, I got my atima running rather nicely with 4 8354! I had to flash bios to 1.04 to be able to enter bios menu. Thanks to AmiJIm for uploading the BIOS!

Does anybody know if Atima supports shanghais or istanbuls?

Ok guys, I just got some thin clients bought from a chinese website! Unfortunately, the they don't support linux. I've been reading this thread from the beginning of it and read that everyone is having issues installing any version of windows server. Anyone had any success installing any widows server? Thanks

The Arima boards in this thread aren't Thin Clients, they're Google server boards and they will, with a little coaxing, run Ubuntu though I think it's the server install not the desktop one. If anyone has gotten one of these to run any version of Windows Server I haven't seen it mentioned.

No, I mean this board isn't a thin client. Thin Clients are different hardware. Your post sounded as though you thought the Arima board referred to in this thread was a Thin Client or that you bought some Thin Client hardware made by the Arima company and thought that was what this thread referred to. If you are looking to connect some Thin Clients to one of these Arima quad Opteron boards then that's a different matter entirely. Your initial declaration: "Thin Clients won't support Ubuntu!", doesn't really clarify the situation.

As far as I can tell, Thin Clients are pretty much just dumb terminals except with better graphics so they can run a graphical interface. I've never set such a system up before so that's about as far as my knowledge of them goes. Others may have more experience with them but as far as I know the Arima boards discussed in this thread are all set up as file/game servers, dedicated crunching machines or a combination of both. What you seem to be trying to do is closer to the probable intended application of this kind of hardware. Linux base OS with multiple virtual machines each tied to a remote terminal interface using Thin Clients, if it's for users to actually access or otherwise each of those VMs is a server instance in it's own right serving web pages, files or whatever over the network.

What I meant is, this arima board only supports Linux, right? I am trying to build up a server running Windows server 2008 because my thin client won't support Linux. So, that's why I'm asking if anyone got Windows working on these boards! Thanks for your input!

Ok, that makes sense. I think I read somewhere in this thread that the Arima board doesn't support ACPI in a manner that Windows requires ... or something.

I'm not sure if you are referring to Thin Client hardware or software. If you mean software then you might be able to get the Arima board running using a Linux based OS but then use visualization software to install Windows Server within that.

so do you think you could crunch with these heatsinks and keep them fanless? or would i need to have fans as it wont be in a windtunnel case like server heatsinks expect?

anyways, im not sure but being that they are "fanless" means they lack mounting points for fans i dont want to deal with another sammy style heatsink where i have to jerryrig fans to them, im just looking around at differant things, customizing in my head

yes but installing os is closer to being idle than 100% full tilt crunching,

like i had said my sammy is only 31w TDP and they would overheat without a fan. so these are near double with a little better heatsinks, thinkin getting ones that fit 80mm fan then get the lowest speed i can find lol

That's what I would do. It doesn't take much airflow to keep them cool. Also, the passive heatsink on the board needs a little air too, it gets hot.
