Audible noises from ga-x79-ud7 MOSFETs, is my board damaged?

With the F6 and F7 BIOS, my Gigabyte ga-x79-ud7 made clearly audible sounds. I have F8 now, and I'm going to test again with my stethoscope.

The sounds came from the two rows of black cubes in-between the CPU and the heat-pipe riser. The sounds were loudest with heavy graphics card use, but are noticeable with any significant IO load, including USB devices. The sounds are as loud as conversation, (30-60db at one meter on my sound level meter). The sounds are similar to hisses, squeals, squeaks, scratches and ticks.

My question now is if I should just RMA or return the board. I want to overclock it, but I don't expect to ever have a stable system if the power regulators are fried.

I would RMA that is inductor squeal, just make sure it isn't from your GPUs.

When I flashed my main bios from f8g to f8, backup bios got flashed too.

I randomly have electrical noise in mainboard. Gonna try f9a.

i experienced the same noise on this board. just the intensity was not that high like yours. but the system, with default bios settings, endet after 45 min of gaming in a freeze. iv sendet the mb to rma. the x79 ud7 currently is in most parts of the world out of stock... fingers crossed that i see it again

My electrical noise comes from disks data. But has been reduced almost completely with new bios revisions.

Btw, f9a is not good overclocker, need more voltage for same oc.

Seems like a great deal from Intel. No matter how you blow it up or break it...

    Yo guys,
before I gonna buy this board just two question on you all:
    1. Are there still any POST-problems (code 6a or 79) known?
    2. Did it happen that the mosfets were burned even using the F7 BIOS (or higher version)?

I have had no post or mosfet issues at all. The new f9a bios seems to be good for me also.

Most had it fixed with BIOS F7. Now each BIOS seems to get better.

I have a UD7 and the G1 Assassin 2, i run them for longs periods of times and hard stress, both are still alive. Plus with the GB board you are better covered if it does, it can happen on any X79 boards really, it takes one bad component out of the 1million made of the same thing.

Only one guy I have seen on all the forums i have been on, it must have been a bad batch of something, otherwise you would see a bunch of people in here saying something blew, but you don't. Thank you for your honest reply. I already found somebody who wants to buy my X58-UD-7.
I just can't wait to make the X79-UD-7 work...

Awesome, I've been using this board for almost 2 months now... and now I'm getting A2 post code after clearing the CMOS after a poor OC. Seriously? I'm running F7 and i'm only now getting A2 after a CMOS clear? Any suggestions? I've already changed RAM.

Futzed with it a bit, now its Giving me A6.

Honestly, though, I don't get it. I was just trying to push my 2400MHz ram past 2400MHz and now I'm getting A2 and A6 post code. I'm 99% sure its because I cleared the CMOS by removing the battery and unplugging power.

Edit: Fixed by unplugging EVERYTHING from the board and then clearing CMOS and rebooting.

I had the same issue and I solved it by clearing cmos or disconnecting and connecting expansion cards and memory...

    Good morning to all users,
Today I was contacted by Gigabyte Italy, their were very helpful with me and took note of the problem immediately, by sending me another motherboard X79UD7.
I'm happy with as Gigabyte is handling the issue with users and, by the end of this week I'll have another new motherboard in my PC.
    Amazing, good Gigabyte!

the protection mechanism implemented on UD7 may not be functioning correctly. We are getting all these boards back to HQ for testing and will find out what is up and update. It's being treated as a top priority!
