Because it is not needed for the majority of users. Most software only uses 4 threads or less, so higher clocks and/or lower power consumption pay off the most.

You can get 6 core for around ~ $550

Not to mention that Intel quad core can beat anything that AMD offers.

Given Intel's huge lead, the prices look great!

All systems sold. Will be back after Sandy Bridge!

Please spare us from socket or VRM burn issues with Z77 boards thx!

    BTW, I notice Intel really seems to love the number seven. 7-Series chipset Q77, H77, Z77, most CPU models have a 7 in it (i7-3770K, i7-3770, i5-3570, i5-3570, i7-3770S, i7-3770T, i5-3570S, i5-3570T etc.), turbo frequencies around 3.7GHz, 77W TDP...

    Lucky number 7?

all the money is in servers and mobile, two very different types of chip at the moment. the desktop chips are just derivatives of the server and mobile designs. so for those wondering why the mainstream desktop platform doesn't look more like the server platform... it is because the architecture is for laptops

    But that's what I mean.

Have a dual, a quad, a quad with IGP and a HT quad and then make a standard and power saving model of the lower end and a K for the upper end.

That's 8 CPUs at most and would cover any and all situations.

It's why I dont understand that they have an I5-2310 and an I5-2320.

So guys do you reckon we will see 6ghz clocks more often with Ivy? Maybe not through multi but through BCLK dividers?

I certainly hope so. Moving to a 2500K was just a stop-gap for me until the 6GHz Ivy's arrive

There is no unlocked (K) i5 listed - why? Do we have to buy the most expensive i7 to get an unlocked cpu?

I must admit I have put my upgrade from QX9650 and RE X48 on hold as I am eagerly awaiting the arrival of Poison Ivy! It certainly does look intoxicating with more IPC than SNB and dedicated PCI-E 3.0, USB 3,0 and SATA III, also Thunderbolt/Lightpeak is not a bad thing either.

I am now just mulling over, do I go New C2 Stepping SNB-E? Or do I go Poison Ivy i7 37xxx?

Hm not very impressive. I mean 3770K was 100 MHz faster and scored ~ 9% better. Hope it overclocks much better otherwise I will stick to my SB-CPU.

Hoping it overclocks like mad, on air, as a Z77 matx looks like my next upgrade.
