I thought it was because of the platform (X58), but with your feedback, it seems that it is also the same with the x79

tistou 77 its the post time that is long not the Boot time. Post time is nothing to do with drivers and yes if you change the backplate which is included with the R4E you can use any 1366 cooler. Your EK block will fit perfectly with this backplate.

Although I wasn't to worried at all about the boot time (post time) myself, I decided to disable the BT and unused ASMedia controller (as suggested above), and my boot time is greatly reduced. Warm boots fly by in a matter of seconds, and the cold boot time is cut nearly in half. Also disabling non-bootable drives under the Boot menu helps. Something to look into for those not using these onboard devices and wanting to speed up the boot time.

Jack: "Hey Bob, let's do a high-end motherboard for Quad-SLI, but let's change the usual molex EZ-plug we usually put on those motherboards to a 6-pins PCIe connector, so no one will be able to use it, since all the high-end PSUs on the market only have 8 PCIe cables max. Let's make a Quad-SLI motherboard, but be sure that no one can't use it without the proper adaptor, since they will only have 8 PCIe cables, but will need 9!''

Bob: ''Ok, great idea! So we will be sure that they will go crazy trying to find a stupid 2 Molex to 6-pins PCIe that no one is making anymore! Or wait 2 weeks to get one with the great couriers out there. And be sure NOT to put one of those 0.99$ connectors in the motherboard box, and let's put alot of useless junk with it instead!''

LMFAO! Although I think for their logic is that, most people that will be running quad fire will be using 2 PSU's or have the necessary cables and what not to take advantage of that 6 pin power. All in all, this is a board designed for extreme benchers as well as top enthusiasts. If not why not just get the Formula, apart from the lack of 8 DIMM's

You mean the molex to 6 pin that is $3 at any computer store? Who is going to bench 4x 580 with 1 PSU anyway? Seems like you are grasping at straws for something to complain about..

Yes. The change of socket works fine. I have tested it with Koolance 370 waterblock and 1366 backplate.

Yep, have a look here: http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum...review-10.html

Pretty much anything 1366 that has a backplate will be fine.

If you have the original (old, somewhat pain in the rear) mounting system, the four screws' threading fits the SKT2011 mounting system perfectly.

About the OC, are different Vcore (offset)?

    there is a delta Vcore/vscca? (as 1366 and Vdimm/vQPI)

compared to 1366, the OC is different?

    thanks

When you live up north of the 49th parallel, already under 3 feet of snow, with the nearest computer stores at 8 hours from my place... finding a stupid adaptor like that can be annoying. B.O. everywhere I ordered it in Canada. 3 are stucked at the US/Canada border for 3 weeks now (Christmas time...), coming from USA stores. And I fried 2 PSUs trying to use dual-PSU.

Call me stupid, noob, etc I don't care, but after getting 1 dead AX1200 and 1 DOA HCP-1200, I'm grasping at straws now, yes. They could have put that 3$ adapter in the box.

    And for Quad-Fire 4X6970 Lightnings, I don't need to use a dual-PSU set-up. A single HCP-1200 is plenty enough. But only 8 PCIe cables. Need 9.

I think my board has just died for no reason.... was playing a game and it suddenly goes off, not even BSOD, just off. Now when i turn it on, the board LED lights stay off including the error codes, everything else stays off (no fans come on apart from the fan on the board itself) theres no post screen or any kind of activity. Only things that work on the board are the lights for the power and reset buttons. When i press the power button only the boards fan spins, nothing else at all.
Tried ressetting CMOS and removing the battery on the board but that dont help.

What else could i do? I'm about to try my PSU, cards and memory in another board, to make sure they're ok, but it's looking like it's the board itself. Even if the CPU was dead (which i very much doubt because it was only at 4.4GHz at the time and temps were well well 60c) the board would still show activity on the lights and the error code would display.

pop out the battery tear it down and remount your cpu in the socket, then try it again.

    Seems that it's the PSU...

I connected it to another board... same thing happens. Well thats kind of a releif i suppose any recommendations for a new PSU? It needs to be beefy, like around 1200w preferably. The one thats just died was a Thermaltake toughpower 1200w... what a POS!

LOL! thermaltake PSU's, they've been known to alot of people to avoid. That being said, the AX1200w fits most peoples bill quite well, I personally run that myself. Or if you can, get your hands on the SeaSonic 1000W 80+ platinum, great voltage regulation on that psu, given that you also have some sort of power conditioner as the ripple suppression isn't as great compared to the AX1200.

Playing around with max oc, this is about all I am able to do on water. I guess it will need cold to go any higher.

Ill try with turbov evo later and see if it can go higher in windows.
