Mcubed BigNG - Can't transfer Profiles - Help!

Hi, after searching the web for hours and finding nothing on this, I could really use some help from all the mcubed gurus out there.

    Here's my problem:

I recently got a mcubed BigNG. Hooked everything up, defined my prefered configuration, and saved the new profile. Up to that point, it all looked fine. However, when I try to transfer the new profile I've created to the bigNG itself (so that it can work independently without the software), the software runs through the process for a few moments (transfer and then verify), but in the end I keep getting "transfer incomplete", and the mcubed returns to the "not saved" manual profile. I can't even get the software to transfer the "default" profile to the bigNG.

I should note that that the usb connection works fine and I have the green dot blinking the whole time, plus any changes I make in the configuration with the software (like changing fan speeds, allocating sensors and so forth) are registered immediately and without a hitch.

Did anyone have this problem? any idea how it can be solved? this is sooooo frustrating.

    thanks.

Hi Evantaur, thank you very much for responding.

Maybe I simply didn't understand how it's suposed to work. But then again, if it's enough to set up the profile and save it and then the bigNG works according to the configuration you set up with or without actually openning the software, what is the "transfer profile" function for?

Also, could you please explain what you mean by "change operating modes"?

What o/s? if its win7 ive seen the same issue ..Next time when you transfer the profile as soon as it says verifying hit the x on the transfer window. It will be saved .dont let it run thru the loop of transferring..You have to use the Tban software to save profiles..

    the thing that says
    "response curves, target temp..."

Hi Squishee, thanks for the info. Nice to know I'm not the only one to have this issue

To the first point, I've got Win 7 64 bit on my pc, but I've also went through the same procedure with my old laptop which has XP installed and had the same problem with incomplete transfers. Btw, in constrast with XP, the software graphics on Win 7 is quited messed up (although it's still workable). I've tried changing the compatibility mode to XP but that didn't help. Any way of sorting this out?

To the second point, like you suggest, I've tried hitting the x on the transfer window as soon as it got into "verify" mode but it just jumped back to profile "not defined" and 100% manual operation on all fan channels. Perhaps my timing was wrong, so I'll try again, but I was hoping to get the transfer function to work properly rather than going through this hit and miss operation.

In this context, am I right in thinking that the "transfer" fuction is meant to transfer the profile to the bigNG (Evantaur's response seems to suggest otherwise). In other words, can the bigNG work as it should even if you don't transfer the profile and don't open the software at all, but only save the profile in the once and then don't open the software ever again?

transfer profile does just as you think. Dont hit the x until the transfer line has gone thru one time. The graphics are most likely from having windows fonts enlarged in the personalization options of windows. If its not set to default normal fonts it will look strange.I agree they need a newer software package but the Bigng is a very good product and im happy with its near silent performance until i need those fans to kick in ..Also you are using custom profiles you made correct? If so then the mode settings and target temp are irrelevant to your use. They are premade profiles that can be tweaked to your needs.I always make my own custom profile based on temp sensors and water temp for my machines.

Many thanks Squishee! much appreciated advice. I will try it tonight or tomorrow at the latest and see if it works.

In the meantime, I have a couple of questions about the digital sensors I was hoping you guys might also be able to help me with.

The first question is about “pinging” the digital sensors from the Navigator software. I seem to remember reading somewhere that it is possible to ping the sensors individually so that that the little led is lit up for a few seconds and that helps you to identify them. However, I couldn’t find the relevant option anywhere in the software menu. Any idea what I need to do to make this work?

The second question is about the actual setup of the digital sensors. With the bigNG, I also got the Digital Sensor Extension Set but as you probably know the instructions (if you can call them that) are rubbish. Specifically, what I’m not sure about is how to hook-up the splitters that come with the set. These splitters have 4 ports (2 on each side) but there’s nothing in the instruction about what goes where. Here is a drawing of the setup I have in mind:

The question is whether or not this is a legitimate setup or are you supposed to use only one side of the splitter for connecting the digital sensors (which means you only connect 2 sensors to each splitter) and one side to the bigNG (which means that1 port is left empty on that side of the splitter), or can you connect 3 sensors to each splitter like in the drawing above.

I wouldn’t worry about it much if these were analog sensors, but given that they are digital, I’m worried that if I hook them up in the wrong way it might cause damage to the bigNG sensor hub.

    Thanks again.
