Diminishing returns....
Diminishing returns....
I was going for the 3930k myself..As soon as they leaked the SKUs and prices months ago..
But remember there is a respin in a few months? I'm definitely holding off and waiting and seeing what happens. Ive waited this long..I can wait a few more months and save up some more bucks.
P.s. looks like 2 cores are disabled from the die shots.
Yea, no..Definitely not dropping $600 on that. Obv its f'd up
cough cough, told you so...

It seems that they moved up a turbo bin or two on single/lightly threaded apps and 4-core SB doesn't win anywhere?

Has anyone shown any really impressive OCing results yet?

Power consumption of FX 8150 is a slap for AMD. Even with more die size and Transistor Count the Intel Sandy Bridge E has lower power consumption in OCed and normal state

Am I correct in understanding that each 3960X is in fact a failed SB-EP?
I think i read on Tom's HW that two cores are fused off..

Yep. They are xeon octa's with 2 cores disabled. There are two possible reasons.
1. TDP: desktop limit is 130w, server is 150w and those don't sell that well.
2. Scraps: All three sb-e cpu's are the failed 8 core dies as opposed to disabled. In which case the 3960X is a massive **** take.
From the reviews so far, the platform is rather disappointing. I have upgradeitus but I'm extremely reluctant to blow cash on a flagship that is a scrap part. Not to mention the extremely lame x79.

This is not a scrap part its a untested part with binning done. It maybe able to do 8c or may be not its not tested its straight away laser cut and passed along. The only tests done are the PT test and the normal sync performance test for all 6 cores which is logged for each silicon.
This is how it is going right now in the future each silicon might be tested for 8c performance....

Really dumb question, but does anyone know if these support ECC?
