    but with the now old hardware I have it just isn't worth the cost of electricity to run it
    i don't let that stop me. hell, i even run it on my laptop lol. it's got a dual core (4 w/HT) i5 (pre-SB) and a 300 something nVidia GPU. i run both the SMP and the GPU on it lol.

    Why the hell do we need money to do good?

    i hear ye. my power bill jumped quite a bit when i started running 24/7, about $150/mo increase. but, that is with 2 PC's, a laptop, and a PS3 all running full out (CPU and GPU's) - and here in Germany where power costs a bit more and you pay in euro (which is socking it to the dollar pretty hard). one PC running full out 24/7 in the states should only increase your power bill maybe $30-40/mo.....of course, having said that - i'm all for p2501's idea: let the power companies sponsor us and pay our power bills for us (i know a few texans who could use a break on paying for AC hehe)

    Absolutely. I like the aspect that the project got to be part of something ever evolving and greater, which is why this nick is only fitting IMO.

    turn it off while your using the PC. (right-click the icon in the task bar --> click exit) --- the GPU client will take up most of your GPU resources and will make doing anything productive difficult at best - impossible at worst. after your done, simply turn it back on. at least that's what i do. i usually have to turn off both the CPU client and the GPU client if i want to do anything more than surf the web - and even that can be kinda painful too. just make short cuts and place them on your desktop for restarting them once you're finished using your PC.

    An easier way if you are using systray is to right-click on the FAH icon and click "Pause work" while your using your PC.

    Have things changed with the GPU? Back when I ran GPU2 on my GTX260 the PC was easily usable while folding on the card.

    bds71, the WCG team does a "supercomputer" week twice a year, just for fun and to see how much computing power XS really has. If we could get even half the entire forum to participate it would be out of this world. BUT I don't want people to abandon other good projects like this one for it.

    Main reason I run WCG now instead of F@H is I can't run the SMP client due to only having 4 cores, and my GPUs were getting too costly to run (and also getting outdated as well). So I run what I can. I was running WCG on my CPU and F@H on my GPU for a long time but once I started having to pay my own electric bill directly and it wasn't rolled into a flat cost per month, well, my wallet felt it hard

    Try sorting your processes and affinities with WinAFC or WinAFC64 ( http://affinitychanger.sourceforge.net/ ). It's best is you let the GPU clients use one thread, but it also works alongside other processes (browsing, light loads). What you need to keep apart are SMP folding processes and GPU ones, they seriously hurt each other.

    Example:

    Code:
    #WarningLevel = 2
    ConsoleLogLevel = 4
    # To change only the file verbosity:
    #FileLogLevel = 3
    # To change both mediums at the same time:
    #LogLevel = 3
    #TimeInterval = 30
    #*\FahCore_1*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+PAIR3 [priority=High]
    #*\FahCore_a*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+PAIR3 [priority=Normal]
    *\FahCore_1*.exe := CPU7 [priority=Realtime]
    *\FahCore_a*.exe := PAIR0+PAIR1+PAIR2+CPU6 [priority=Normal]
    *\chrome.exe := CPU7
    *\firefox.exe := CPU7
    *\foobar2000.exe := CPU6 [priority=High]
    *\unrar.exe := CPU7
    *\mpc-hc64.exe := CPU6 [priority=AboveNormal]
    *\audiodg.exe := CPU2
    *\sidebar.exe := CPU7
    *\processhacker.exe := CPU7
    *\fahcontrol.exe := CPU7
    *\fahclient.exe := CPU7
    *\coretemp.exe := CPU7
    *\rtkngui64.exe := CPU7
    *\msiafterburner.exe := CPU7
    *\plugin-container.exe := CPU7
    Enables you to get the most out of 8 threads.

    hmmm....there is a priority setting on the GPU gui. i know i have mine set to override other programs' priority - that's why i have to shut it off when doing anything else. perhaps lowering the priority is all you need to do kingcarcas.

    this sounds really cool. i would seriously participate in this - if i had an internet connection unfortunately, it won't be back up for probably another 3-4 weeks. i'm switching to one of the FO services getting installed locally, and i had to give my old company a 3 month notice that i was leaving. unfortunately, i made arrangements according to when the service was "supposed" to be ready - needless to say, it's not ready, and won't be for a few more weeks....hopefully.

    PS: i'm making this post from work hehe

    Cool, i wonder if disabling cpu affinity option could do anything in the F@H setup. Let's see what i can do, it's getting chilly here so i could use the heat!

    Are any of you guys using the v7 open beta? I'm trying to start folding (finally) but I unfortunately have an AMD gfx card. Seemed best to use v7 in that instance.

    For the moment I'm fighting BSODs on what I thought was a stable overlock. Could be my graphics card at fault though. Who knows. More on that in the other thread I posted in.

    I'm using v7 on both my PC's at the moment. Not doing GPU folding currently though, just straight up SMP CPU.

    Oh lol! This is fantastic, i never would have made it into the Top 20 back in the days when F@H was the primary project on XS, but now i have! Part of the reason i stayed with my old team for a while when pretty much everyone stopped folding was so i could pass a few users who would own me back in the day and i passed 1 Mill as well, for a moment i was also the #1 producer

    I passed the 2.1Million mark woohoo! After leaving off in October of 09, WOW! Can't believe it was that long ago, time flies.
