So they switch from 980x to 2600K to 2500K comparisons whenever they see they would get hammered ? Way to go AMD...
Slide in 1100T in those benchmarks and see Zambezi being massive 10% faster with 33% more "cores" ,15% more clockspeed and 8MB more cache. They failed with Bulldozer on desktop, period. They enter year 2012 with Bobcat level of IPC,going backwards in time instead jumping over K10. Llano's core is a speed train compared to chariot of bulldozer

no. what matters most in servers is performance per watt! bulldozer loses to intel at this. I don't see why OEMs will build many bulldozer servers at all.

Pfahahahah I even didn't noticed that... they benched a 2500K and said it was a 980X... hahaha

But on second though, the score was somwehat low for a 980X.. it usually scores in the 8.x region...

When AMD started extensively talking about UPCOMING revisions of Bulldozer (Piledriver, Steamroller, etc) during the Bulldozer presentation, I think a lot of us sat up and said "uh oh". It felt like they wanted to focus upon what was coming instead of concentrating upon what was about to be launched.

Seems that sentiment was pretty much spot on.

It is also ironic how people want to talk about Windows 8 performance when the final version is only due out at the END of next year. By that time Zambezi should already be replaced (unless there are more delays) while Ivy Bridge will be hitting almost all of Intel's lineup. Plus, don't think for a second that Sandy Bridge won't see some form of performance improvement in Windows 8.

So we're back to square one: AMD has released an architecture that looks like it was supposed to compete against Bloomfield if it wasn't for all the delays. Instead, it gets murdered by Sandy Bridge in most scenarios while the marketing types will continue to pull positive talking points from the ether.

Can't they be sued for such a clear case of deceptive marketing/lies?

I will say this reading all about architectural changes is very interesting.

Might not have performance of my SB, but I think fx-8120 looks like a fun chip to mess around with

This explains the recent firings a lot better at least. While the product sucks and that's clearly bad, it looks much better on their board to have actual reasons instead of just randomly ousting people. Might help them a bit in the long run when it comes to negotiating large scale server deals

With all these smoke & mirrors about how some people with hands on time with BD saying they would get this for their next system, was about what ? Just for them being able to break GHz records ?
Does it matter if they can o/c it to 10Ghz, yet it still performs like a 5GHz x6 part ?

The line has been drawn in the sand, if whomever comes out with a new CPU, and they don't have a good preview or solid information, then nobody will believe them, nor should they.

Oh hell this is such a disappointment.

I've only ever owened 4 Intel cpus, the 486, P3, E6850 and my current 2600K I only got that 2 months ago.
At the time I though I was crazy for buying it just because I wanted an m-itx system. Now I'm over the moon.

    Oh AMD...what have you done...

I really wanted this FX to live up to the moniker's legacy from the Athlon 64 days.

Actually, I am still getting a bulldozer for my next system.

FX-4xxx will be epic fail.. whos gona buy that...

And isn't trinity also 2M/4C? If they only get the 10-15% performance increase this thing will be slower then llano (cpu wise).

Newegg allready sold out of 8150 at $279.99 They still have some 8120's tho.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

Thats what I was thinking as well, originally I was thinking trinity should shape up to be a great followup fusion product before seeing the overall BD results, the IPC is just going to kill it.

    Just a quick note:

As much as I dislike the (relatively) poor performance of Bulldozer I have absolutely no understanding for the Intel "fans" who revel in the "fail" of this launch.

If you like Intel products you should wish for AMD putting out competitive products!!!

If you don't know why then.... well.... whatever... let's just say that we're living in capitalist market economies.....
Win XP Pro x64 / Win 7 x64 / Phenom II / Asus m3a79-t Deluxe / 8x2 GB GSkill and some other stuff.....

lol why not just get 2 2600ks? Wouldn't that seem to be the logical thing to do after seeing the performance numbers?

I've been kinda pissed about Bulldozer since yesterday. I admit that. Today I searched for The Witcher 2, Total War: Shogun 2, Metro 2033, Battlefield 3, and Deus Ex: HR gaming scores. If the future holds more multithreaded games in store, then the 8150 isn't a complete loss.

    Only time will tell...

Has anybody missed the fact that BD has 2B transistors?
Using the same transistor count they could glue two Thubans together for 12C/12T 12MB L3 Quad channel RAM monster... I am not even mentioning SB's transistor count...
What the hell did they waste transistors on?

the way I see it get a 2500k cheap for your 24/7 rig and have fun on air. I just want to see some ln2 scaling with bulldozer. Its for fun. Ive waited too long and havent used any of my ln2 crap in a year. sandy sux for ln2. I dont see what everyone is complaining about. we finally have some new hardware that scales well with extreme cooling and everyone complains. I dont get it. quit comparing intel to amd and just overclock and have fun. geez. I feel like just quitting ocing altogether if this is how people are going to act.
