not only msi but gigabyte t00, 8+2 phase might be not enough, 500w limit? i dunno. im anticipating dead 990fx boards though lol

Did they announce the server versions yet? I can't find opteron pricing anywhere. I would still probably be interested in a 4p system with the 8 core versions if they are cheap enough.

.....guru3d has a good review, its about the software, it seems this cpu does not work well with older benchmarks. i think its a good product, idk why everyone is so upset, i was expecting worse. in all the areas that it excels, is exactly what i use it for (like hand brake and media expresso, truecrypt..etc ). seeing as how i need a new cpu anyways (i dropped my other one, so pissed right now) might as well jump on board.

As the CPU trailer said: Unbelievable. But not the good way. And I really wanted to go AMD this time around but there's no way in hell I'm doing that as of now. Maybe a new stepping could improve power consumption and prices went down to 1100T-levels I could justify it but otherwise hell no.

I hope AMD gives an explanation for the lack of performance, was this really what they were expecting? If so, what on earth were they thinking? If it doesn't deliver in servers I can't see why they didn't cancel the project, and I can't really understand why they didn't "just" use the stars cores, put two more on the die and some cache and launched as a desktop processor instead of this pile of ...

well no, but based on the previous leaks; i thought performance was going to be worse than it is.

ARM and its partners are Intel's real competition now. AMD is just an also-ran living on Intel's scraps.

I tested hashing in two completely different benchmarks and got a world of different results. Bulldozer needs a lot of software to catch up with it until people can start saying how crappy it is.

This is worse. Phenom I was actually still an upgrade over K8. Albeit very marginal, but an upgrade nonetheless. BD core vs core is a downgrade to Phenom II. Which is really sad.

In the end there are some bright spots, yes. But honestly at the end of the day, if the marketing department at AMD does their job, this will STILL sell well. Why? Because the average home user will get "more cores" and "more Ghz." P4 sucked but it still sold well. For sales and marketing, It's all a numbers game...

Ahh, disappointing. Here's hoping that this ends up like Fermi and AMD can quickly make large improvements in power consumption and performance with Piledriver.
Really would have liked to see some improvements in AMDs usual weak areas like single threaded performance though.

The FX name used in this sense is a half truth, FX is for overclock ability, cherry picked from the rest, they do overclock well but they are all called FX and not cherry picked so that part is false.
FX is not about better architecture, its about better OC from the rest of the range.

Meh, no need for that, this is not the first, nor the last time this happens. The problem is that in this case I am actually sorry because we are right. I have been using Athlon64 back in the day and I used to look up to the FX models so much. Those were like a dream for all pc users back in the day (except for die hard intel fanboys, of course ). Now, to see the FX name used like this....it's like something is breaking inside of me

Does anyone know if they launched the interlagos versions as well? Google is flooded with AMD press releases about cray computers.

The QuadFX wasn't terribly exciting either.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was a carefully timed release to get a least one positive headline next to the name...

this isnt as bad as i thought it would be.

ive been reading that AMD is going to aggressively fix bulldozers shortcomings next year but in there lies the problem. AMD can not stick to a schedule and that is what is really killing them. how many months was bulldozer late? and they expect to release piledriver sometime earlyish 2012? i wouldnt be shocked if we didnt see piledriver til this time next year. well, at least i can still looking foward to AMD's 7900 series GPUS

I cannot understand how come they doubled transistors to get less performance?
Any linpack benchmark that I missed in all the reviews?
