    The Mayhems Dye Experience

To dye, or not to dye, that is the question.

Luckily there are many options for us today to get that, "custom look". From colored tubing, to uv reactive tubing. From dyes, to uv reactive dyes, to milk like substances. Personally I've always preferred the minimalist look of black tubing but decided to try out "pretty" water cooling for a change. Having experimented lightly with Feser One I was really turned off at the whole dye idea. After only one week of using Feser One I had muck in my water block, here is the link.

Not too long after the Feser disaster I found Mayhems Dye. A Pure Dye without any of the additives that clog up your loop. So I decided to put this to the test. I've been running 20 drops of Mayhems Red + a couple drops of PT-Nuke Biocide for the past month with no buildup or gummy mess what-so-ever. Nothing in the CPU block and nothing in the GPU Block. 30 days later its still clean and red like the very first day. I am very impressed with this dye so far, to say the least.

Mick from Mayhems Dye was kind enough to send me a few samples to test. Deep Blue, Deep Purple, Red, UV Pink, UV Yellow Green, and UV Clear Blue. I could sit here and try to describe these dyes but I thought it better to make a few short videos for your enjoyment. 20 drops of each dye in 1.5 liters of water.

And a few more fun videos

All in all, it really comes down to preference. Colored tube or dye, its your choice. After my personal experience, I have nothing but good things to say about Mayhems Dye. A great product from a highly dependable and very reachable vendor. Honestly, it doesn't get any better than that.

I would personally like to thank OCM for taking the time to do this. Not often people take the time to review such a small and cheap product that does have a massive impact on the over all presentation of a water cooling system.

    thank you from Mayhem's

Great well shot videos showing off nuances of dye usage (different concentration/lightning affect on looks and such).

A bit offtopic question .. if mlwood as individual was able to produce such quality product with investing his time into testing to make these deyes .. why a heck bigger vendors like mentioned Feser weren't able to, given that usually those have more resources like time/money and so on to make theirs? They could have bought better & more expensive instruments, could have set up more test loops, probably had access to wider selection of colouring pigments to try out, could have allocate more human resources .. but judging by results - they didn't :/

Because mlwood went out of his way to locate chemicals for dye that aren't as easy to get your hands on as the junk in Feser. His dye formulas are above and beyond better than anything I know of in general, but getting his chemicals is apparently only possible in the UK and you need a chemist's knowledge, not a marketer's.

I only wish his dyes were more widely available stateside.

I have tested now in access of 260+ dyes out of them i have a total of only 12 dyes i use. Some are still under test such as orange, Black and some others. (this is now going into my 3rd year of testing)

All the dyes , liquids every thing i test and try to make takes a lot of time and effort to make. Mayhem's was never supposed to happen it all started on OC3D a few years back when i was getting sick of buying sub standard coloured coolants. I went out hunted down makers of dyes and then started to look into it all. The initial investment was only £5.00.

I then sent some out to mates who went nuts and gradual every thing has expanded to were I buy all the raw chemicals in, I make our own ultra pure H20, I make coolants that sell out in the UK all the time. Every thing is bought in and made from the ground up and nothing is farmed out to other companies to do it for me. So much so that i have now taken on a partner and were going to expand the company more as we have other things i would like to make but never had the chance to. Im very lucky to know a lot of people in the industry and get full support form every one. Even my re-sellers support me 100% all the time.

All i can say for the moment is that this is just the start and i intend for us to come up with more stuff for every one. I Love the fact that people like I&H , Frozen Q, Ice Dragon cooling all come up with there very own products that make larger companies sit back and take note. I don't think any us are in it just for the money (i know im not) but for the love of our hobble. I have had two companies offer to literary take me on or by me out with some amazing terms and both times i have turned them down. I could now be sitting pretty on a rather large amount of money but i am happy the way things are.

Mayhems is British and will stay British and i will carry on my hardest to make sure every thing i do is up to standard. I do make the odd mistake now and then and try my best to rectify all problems asap. I have my haters on a certain site but you know what. every time he gobs off i sell more wich makes me chuckle.

This hobby is fantastic and the communality that surrounds it brings many people in from all walks of life lets keep it that way ...

Just wish there were less haters in it but "say la vie" (how ever its spelt) .......

hillywav : wich colour was that, how much biocide did you use, wich biocide did you use, how much water do you have in your system. If using a silver kill coil the colour will not degrade, if you using a liquid biocide and you use say ours did you use more than 2 drops per ltr as this will happen. ect ect.

Staining it down to the amount of dye you use and you tubing.

My favorite is the lighter blue color.

Lets stop with the trolling here please.

Lots of people use dyes and I see setups using dyes all the time. I think its great that we have a thread like this to show how it should be done the correct way using propper materials.

i'm using the deep purple ,deep blue and clear UV for my prev build and buying it from koolroom australia, i mixed 2 drops of deep blue, 4 drops of purple, and 2 drops of clear blue UV
i'm guessing the staining due to i put too much dye , for degrading , using silver for the biocide,i usually blame the degrading due my previous pump (dcp400 and d5) dont have enough head pressure for all of my waterblocks

No its defo not your D5 causing that.

What colour you trying to achieve it sounds like black to me. If you after black you need Deer purple + Yellow. You only need a couple of drops of yellow to achieve black from that. Purple and blue are contrasting colours and wont work as effective.

    Nice. I'm hooked!
Lately I started thinking of using some other coolant (IceDragon to be exact) than just plain distilled. Now I'm gonna have to think of using the dye too. Deep purple and yellow-green are my kind of colors. Thanks for posting this.

Didn't know it's safe to use IceDragon Coolant with Mayhems Dye. Good to know it.

It does require an extremely large amount of dye though. I used about ~600-700ml of coolant and had to use an entire small bottle of Mayhems deep blue in order to get baby blue colouring.

no doubt about that. I have been after some dark red for a while, but I have to keep reminding myself that it is a lot of white and tiny bit of color..

Once ever thing is sorted at our end we will be able to create much deeper colours for IDC liquids and make them as a premix, How ever a lot is going on over here atm and i can only do one thing at a time.

Once we have the premix from IDC i will start working on them and i have to discuss the situation with my partner. One thing you need to remember is all this so far has been done on my own now i have a partner i will have more time to crack on with development and other things.
