Anyone here have a United Refrigeration Login ID? (Don't want yours just a question)

Does URI restrict who can get a login to their site to just HVAC service companies, etc? Trying to get one, obviously without a company name.

You think this would be a problem? Only reason I ask is because its been a few days and the say they'll reply within 1 business day.
    Regards, Stew.....

I use them, I can't remember if they required my epa cert #.

I'd suggest you think up a company name, use your shipping address, and they'll be glad to take your money.

I think you might have trouble getting them to sell to a private individual.
You see what you did there? You got between me and the coffee, now this creates a SITUATION!

edit: crap, I'm so wordy. Give them a fake company name. Problem solved.

Agreed. I invented a fake company name for Airgas and when I setup an account at United I just gave them my school name(we bought a number of components from them). They honestly don't care so long as you can give them a name with a straight face. I suspect though if you said "Unicorns Cotton Candy, INC" they might still go with it if you already have a relationship going w/ the store. That's how my United account was started up. Bought insulation, then some little things and then created an account so I could buy some big stuff.

Unicorn's Cotton Candy....... side splitter there... I don't know why, its just really funny sounding.

I think I'll retry with my school name. I do that for other things all the time, and nobody ever cared. They just need the info to create the account. I always have bought from them before, its just I'd rather have the ability to quote prices locally and order stuff that they don't necessarily have in stock. Its bloody annoying when you have a long list and only 30% of what you really need is in stock. I could call, but with such a long parts list they might get annoyed at me.

I'll let you know how it goes. I hope they never try to fax me though.....

I gave them my license cert number too.

They carry everything we could ever dream of or not even know exists but would sure like to use. I enjoy flipping through their catalog just to think "Damn, it sure would be nice to have a 4-way solenoid valve. Not sure what I'd do with it but it sure would be nice."

More importantly then can special order random parts that we can't easily find on the Internet. I routinely buy start relays for compressors that I cannot even figure out the proper part number on.

Well, for one thing, it doesn't make sense to pay for shipping if I can find the items at URI locally. Then there are others that I just plum can't find anywhere on the net. For example, a CPR Valve, L-Style 5/8" ODS. I'm also going to select my own TXV components (cage, cartridge, and power unit) as finding what I need is somewhat difficult given the outlet sizing I want.

Also, I just want to see updated pricing. The catalog prices are never right; even says so on their site. Its difficult to budget a build without accurate pricing. I doubt they would be amused if I called them with a list of 20 parts to quote.

Local URI and internet URI are not connected. I buy from my local URI only when I need something in a hurry (and then I'm more likely to use Downriver Refrigeration 'cause I like them better). Everything planned in advance I use URI.com because it saves me driving time. My local URI guys know me, and I don't have a problem buying there with a cash account.

I tried to buy from a north Baltimore URI, and I was not in the system at all, had to do quite a bit of talking to those guys to convince them to sell to me.

Online is a totally separate business for them.

You can still buy from local URI or any other refrigeration supply house, but you need to have your business name, and act like you belong there, and don't try to set up an account , just pay cash.

Via what carrier do they ship? I am assuming most small part orders would go UPS or FedEx.

As far as the local stores go, never had a problem. They ask for my business name, and I tell them that I'm a cash customer (no business) and they give me no problems. Same with CC Dickson, no problems there either. United tends to have more stock, though, which is why I generally go to them.

The thing I want to do is basically price the system. Whether I order direct through URI.com or go to the store depends completely on shipping costs. I didn't know that they weren't linked, though. So I'll probably go in. But at least this way I'll have a better idea of pricing.

What ever came of this ? Did you ever get the account opened ?

Just for fun , I tried with the same business name I use for all my accounts and that was last week .... no reply . You would think they would at least send you a denial mail explaining the reason for rejection . That way you would have a shot at another "work around"
