hello, heres the situation a friends rampage3 extreme does not read all the memory hes using tripple channel 6gigs, it only reads 4 gigs, he did a new chipset and bios updat laste night..........
btw: in the 2- 8 pin board conectors hes only has 1 in the 8 pin and no in other his power supply is 650w
he has just the board on the table 1 video card and 1 ssd w7/64.....untill his new ps 1200 watt arrives
hes cleared the bios and retried and still nothing in showing 6gigs hes tried all the slots the memory is all matched for tripple channel.....any ideas
thanks
Well documented X58 issue. Look at reseating CPU and ram. Also look at vdimm, Vtt and ram speed/timings.

Problem solved .........RAM NOT READING IN ALL MEMORY SOCKETS
You have to use the red sockets first. The black sockets only work if the red ones are populated.

got it going 3 sticks tripple channel showing in bios, put the system in case then only 2 gigs showing again, he upgraded bios chipsets, and cpu memory controller from intel still no go with showing 6 gigs ram....his power supply is 600 watts hes got 1 8pin inthe socket and 1- 4 pin where it should have a 8pin, the other 4pin has that flat blank cover over the other 4pins....could this be the problem and maybe he needs 850 watts plus........when he runs dual channel with other ram its solid working good....hes using red sockets 1st....thanks for the help

Well I've thought about it and actually a bit disappointed in the R3E. My P6T6 has all the features I need, super stable, only feature it is missing are the molex plugs to run 3-way SLI safely. However at this age of X58 platform, I don't want to get another board anymore. Two weeks already in RMA...![]()

Running the ram overclocked? If so try at say DDR3-1600 8-8-8-24 2T loose subs at rated vdimm
Also as I said in #5432 and Leeg said again, reseat CPU and look at heatsink/block mounting pressure.

Just to clarify the things that people are asking you to do:
1. Reseat the CPU, don't over-tighten your cooler
We have seen the mounting mechanisms for several coolers warp the motherboard in the socket area because of over-tightening. This causes poor contact with the CPU pads, or if the warping is bad enough, with the memory sockets themselves.
2. Increase QPI/VTT voltage (QPI/DRAM on R3E) to 1.35v.
This makes sure your IMC has enough voltage to read all of your memory.
3. Increase DRAM voltage to 1.65v.
Gotta give your RAM enough juice for it to work correctly. First try the voltage your ram is rated for. If it doesn't work, bump it up to 1.65v, which is the maximum rated safe voltage by Intel.
4. Loosen your memory timings.
Makes it easy for your motherboard to detect your memory.
5. Nobody mentioned this, so I will: Since it worked outside the case, and doesn't inside the case... Check the motherboard tray for stray standoffs that could be shorting the backside of your motherboard.
6. You only need to plug in one of the ATX12v connectors for the motherboard. An 8 pin and a 4 pin would work fine, but he really only needs a single 4pin.

So an update from my end. I got another 980x and i'm running it at 4.4GHz with 1.45v 24/7 stable. New chip is batch 3013A540. It does 4.6GHz HT on with 1.525v BIOS! Uncore at 3668 with 1.35v QPI and 18GB memory at 1834 8-9-8-27-1T.
Here I come top 10 Gulftowns 4.5GHz club!!! Got this chip just in time for cooler ambient temps! From the looks of things I'll probably be skipping Ivy bridge also.
Also, I just got a Crucial C300 256GB ssd on amazon's gold box deal for $340 USD. I've been running two 80GB x25-M G2's in Raid0 on the Marvell controller. I haven't had any issues with them, but I'm running low on space. I was wondering if you guys think I should run it on the Intel controller or stick it on the Marvell by itself.

Your failure to read the installation instructions has nothing to do with the motherboard.

Hi
Does anyone know if there is a R3E 1401 BIOS modded with a updated Intel ICH10R RAID ROM that works in RAID mode on the forum?
Thanks for responding.

Guys I have a question about which board you would go for. I have a UD5 with 990X now but its packed in I plan to RMA and then sell it as I fancy a change. I want your opinions is the ASUS 3 Rampage or the Gigabyte OC board the best for overclocking and stability with 12gb RAM. I have a corsair 1200 w psu and 2x 6990 Xfire as rest of my system. Thanks for your opinions.

It seems like R3E gives higher Uncore with lower QPI voltage than gigabyte OC. This means more memory performance. The gigabyte OC has amazing power supply for the CPU core, so it gets higher overclocks it seems.

Come on guys more of you must have opinions which board is better. I take it you think both are better than my old UD5??? and should clock CPU and memory better than that???

FYI: For me it seems like running RAID on the Intel Controller is much better. With my Vertex 2 50GB in RAID-0 ( 2 drives ) on the ICH10r, I can get around 500MB/s read write, while on the marvell I'm only able to do 376.3/241.6 same test 500MB 0FILL crystal disk mark ( that's with a Agility 3 120GB SF:2000 series ssd )
