New laptop, for gaming, max of around $1000-$1200 bucks tax and all.

My old laptop, that my fiance and i used for just browsing died on us last night.

it was around 250 bucks from hhgregg, and it just wont boot anymore, i recovered it twice, and it keeps getting a blue screen. I have tried just about everything that i could think of to fix it, and i may try putting windows xp on it to see if it might survive as a backup computer.

Anyways i was browsing newegg.com (i figure thats the best place for a deal on a laptop) , and i have liked ASUS laptops, but im open to other opinions on quality.

any good ones that you guys know of? I have looked on there and theres 70 different ASUS laptops, but i would like a bit higher resolution.

Thanks for any of your opinions and thoughts!

    I recommend the Dell L502X (XPS15).

I wouldn't take the Full HD screen (1920x1080), but the 1366x768 because you can play games at native res without taking a hit in the FPS because of the high res.

The problem is that with the L502x, the 1366x768 screens are hit and miss. You may get an LG panel, or you may get a dud.

You can config it with Core i7 Quad, GeForce 540m, 2 year warranty, backlit keyboard, upgraded wireless for around $1000.

Very nice machine IMO, and without the ugly keypads Asus puts in their lappies for some reason.

ive heard the dell lappys arent so hot, ive been told they arent built very well, and that it was on the list of the more failed laptops list (next to alienware and gateway)

i am gonna look into it,

the geforce 540m works well with gaming though? i am a little informed on the current desktop video cards, but with laptops im clueless

With the 540m, Starcraft 2 gets good framerates at high settings at 1366x768...

If you can live with a 1366x768 on a laptop, then the 540m will handle modern games pretty well at native resolution. If you need a 1920x1080 laptop res, then I suggest minimum of 560m.

The L502x is not built as sturdy as the HP Envy, but it is no slouch either. I don't recommend the Envy, with it's garbage Radeon Mobility 6630.

I have a L502x with a 2720qm and like it. I swapped out the drive for a ocz vertex3 max io then changed the ram for 8G of Kinston HyperX which runs at 1866. The 540 is alright for a medium level card at average res.

you should checked out the sager NP5165/Clevo W150HR. http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np5165-...wconfigure=yes

It has a 1920X1080 screen and has a GT555 to power it, while still fitting into the price range. I recomend the I5-2520, 8GB ram. Dont forget to select a windows option, and fill out ur budget with a better warranty.

The nice thing about Sager's are that you have options which includes many different venders / resellers... I'm sure you can find one for less...

A GT555m cannot handle modern games at reasonable settings at 1920x1080.

the price range the OP is looking for does not allow for anything higher then a GT555m, so why sacrifice the rsolution of the screen that you look at everyday, just so you can play games at better settings some times on a low resolution screen?

Read the title of the post. He specifically said gaming. For casual gaming and $1000-$1200, you have to sacrifice resolution AFAIK.

xoticpc looks kinda sweet, i might have to check out some of there configurations

and regarding resolution, it is important, but it isnt at the same time, and at a 1k-1.2k budget, its hard to have the best bang for your buck, i told my wife to be i wanted to build a new desktop (which for 1k-1.2k you can get alot more performance) but she doesnt like desktops, she likes to sit in bed and play on facebook.

i would like something that would be able to somewhat run diablo 3 when it arrives, but the majority of my time is playing everquest on project1999.org
