I would imagine as they are similar boards and a separate thread for the Z68 does not exist.

Just make sure you don't flash a non-Z BIOS on a -Z board, and you are good.

Well got mine yesterday. But mine is the z version but it looks to be the same. And all i have is elpida ram, which it runs but acts real weird though. Guess i will have to get some different ram now. What is the normal voltage for around 4.8ghz -5.0ghz? As i'm not sure if the ram is causing most of it and/or i got a bad cpu. That needs a ton of voltages to get it to not blue screen or not boot at all after the windows logo. Thoughts or suggestions to try as i am all ears, running out of ideas now.

shutting down right after the windows logo, or shutting down right before the windows logo (then restarting) is a sign of ram being troublesome.(for me at least)
All i have are hypers also... if i tighten timings or increase frequency while not adjusting voltage in relation... system acts weird just like yours.

    Here are my sticks
    Attachment 119789

are you on water or air? if you are.. average chips need 1.44-1.488v to be stable @ 4.8-5.0ghz
    subzero will require less 1.37-1.41v

Another sign that it's the ram is if system freezes with no bsod.
I suggest isolating the problem by running ram@ 1600MHz, or what ever is bellow rated specs... then focus on cpu to figure out what it's stable @

It is stopping after the windows logo, basically just sits there. Black screen and does nothing. Well glad to know it is just not me. I will lock the ram and just try the cpu then. Once i find the max on it i will then figure out the ram or trade it and get some that like sandy bridge then. Thanks

mmm i would say its the chip mate some strong IMC than others

    i have 2 x56's

one i can boot easy at 1,585 x56 2/2 the other i cant even at 1.65 on bios and does that windows logo full waiting to desktop and black screen...so i went to x55 and just pumped 101.8 bclk and 5600+ i tried at 1600 CL9 so i dont think its memory

    u can see them here

i guess it could be the chip

when i was playing with my ram... i tried booting 6-5-5 @ 1600MHz... i got to the windows logo, after animation was over, motherboard restarted.. then i waited and pressed enter when it asked me to continue windows normally, got to windows animation again.. afterwards shutdown again then restart. I changed tRCD to 6 and it booted up and went into windows just fine.

My situation seems a little different then yours and Killer_K so i guess it can be his chip

    thanks for catching that

P67v Z68, not quite same but memory controller is in CPU after all!

I normally am a Corsair fan (older Dominator etc.) but G.Skill seems to be highly rated for this Mobo and I have 16GB of it!

Check the manual for memory on the QVL list!

I think i am going back to my x58 platform. I'm honestly not that impressed with this 1155 socket. Still buggy in my honest opinion. Anyone that wants a chip and board let me know. Thanks

hmmm I have felt that sandy bridge is just as stable as X58, except it runs cooler, uses less power and overclocks higher, what specific issues are you having with your setup?

I would agree if you get a good cpu and it overclocks very well. And have ram that doesn't cause issues with your board. But i will order some different ram and pick up a few more chips to see what the deal is. Thanks

LOL @ all the "+1, ++1" comments. You could have put in a real comment if you was actually so happy with it. Just putting in that comment really doesn't help much in a forum.

Edit: Seems to be the chip. It just doesn't scale good past 4.8ghz without shooting a lot of volts to it. So i just need to try some more chips out it seems now. Thanks

Elpida hypers?? it is not conforming with Intel JDEC on SB IMC subtimings.
so go get a better ram which is claimed to be SB- compatible

killer_k we just defend our thread as its for that NOT for X58, u said you dont see dif but we all see them clear, as owi stands elpida its not the taste of SB so try some other RAM, and also u have read here that some IMC on chips are bad

its obvious we will put +1 as we all like this board and SB and we all move to for the reason its cooler, faster and fun

    cheers

Well I know what you are saying about getting a good chip, but if you are running hypers on sb they need to be good (i.e. gtx2 or dom gt 7-8-7) in order to run 2133+, if you are going to keep them run them at 1600 6-6-6 or 1866 8-8-8 if possible.

It sucks that most of the sb memory that is good for benching is oos everywhere, but see if you can find any of the 2133 8-9-8 or 7-10-7 kits (or 2200 version) then jump on them and you will be one happy camper.

As for finding a good cpu, man that has been a lot of work since january but it is pure luck and eventually you will find a good one. What exactly are you looking for in a chip? stable 24/7 clocks or a bencher?

Thank you for understanding. It is nice to see someone knows what i am talking about. Like i said it was more my chip then anything and i know the elpida ics wasn't helping. So i will either trade that ram and do a combo on my x58 r3e perhaps. Since they do so well on it. And move forward from there. Thanks
