bingo was supposed to send me an M5A99X in the mail a month ago to test, apparently it was sent but the package never got to me so I have no board for testing.
I'm tryin to sell some stuff but I gotta get a decent pair of PSC and a board...then somehow have money for bulldozer when my GPUs will be 2 gens behind and midrange at that?

    I really have no cash.

ah_khoo: Just curious, when your pushing MEM do you keep your IMC and core clocks up as well?
I tend to find balance, so I keep everything else in a known good range while clocking mem...

I'm still working on 7-9-7 clocks, but so far I've gotten 1960 bootable and WinRar stable.
That's definetly better than what the C4F would do with this gear.

I doubt it's 24/7, but it's a good sign I need to tweak some more!

yes sir... thou it's just a slight push on cpu clock & IMC frequency.

    this is what i managed on 990X EVO (3.6GHz cpu | 2k @ 7-9-7 ram | 2.5k IMC)

AMD FX Black Edition "Bulldozer" and 990FX Dirt 3 system demo

GamesCom 2011 - Over at the ALTERNATE booth there were a bunch of partner products on display and one that quickly got our attention was a system demo by AMD.

They had a system setup running the upcoming codenamed Bulldozer eight core FX Black Edition processor on an ASUS Crosshair V Formula (AMD 990FX chipset). In the video below you get one of your first looks at a live working Bulldozer system running Dirt 3. You can see all eight cores in action too as the Windows Task Manager performance tab was open at the time.

AMD says that they are making games exceptional in their signage marketing at the booth, do you agree?

New CVF build, beautiful board and I cannot wait to get to tuning. However, in the meantime I am having a stability issue which I am starting to believe is caused by memory. I have G.Skill Sniper memory (F3-14900CL9D-8GBSR), which is on the QVL. What I have generally done is to eliminate a stick and try one stick in each slot A1-B2, either/or clearing CMOS via jumper and/or hitting the MEMOK button. I was somewhat stable at some point and flashed BIOS to 0506 and this seemed to actually make the problem slightly worse (could be my imagination). I have also tried doing an auto-OC with both Load Extreme OC Profile and OC Tuner to see if the different voltages and frequencies would make a difference - slight if at all.

In the beginning I was getting the red DRAM LED, but that mostly went away. Lately I am getting the memory error beep code (long beep, followed by two short beeps, pause, repeat). The only way I have eliminated this was by the CMOS/MEMOK circus stated above.

I do not feel my problem is CPU-related, I have a quad-core (Phenom II X4 945 Deneb ... waiting patiently for Zambezi ...), but I cannot eliminate this as I do not know yet if it _is_ my memory.

I am able to get into BIOS fairly frequently, but I freeze almost as frequently (mouse just stops). Generally, I can boot into Windows and I am fairly stable there, but am getting BSODs, generally with win32k.sys being blamed by the dump (and lately I am seeing an ATI file ati...dag.sys or similar - I can get the exact filename if it becomes important to look at, at work now).

I have picked up another set of RAM sticks on the QVL (Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9) to test with when I get home tonight. In the meantime, any suggestions would be most appreciated.

    Many thanx

Got CFV last Saturday , nice looking board with all the leds , tried my PII X550 & Gskill F3-16000CL9-8GBRM , system wont post , CPU QLED solid on , RC Poster shows string "CPU initial" means CFV thinks there is no proc , Proc was working fine in now dead MSI mb in sig , don't have any spares to try , have RMA the board . Praying to god new MB fixes the issue , love to stick with Asus CFV MB.

Does any one know if RC flasher works on CFV , i tried to update bios but always got invalid rom file error.

it sounds a little bit like the nb voltage being barely just enough, whats your cpu/NB voltage?

what happens if you just press reset button at this stage, a few times....

whats your setings at RAM and CPU-NB? This RAM support 8-9-8-T2 1866 MHz at P55/67.... Denebs IMC is not so strong, so u must set higher CPU-NB (1.25-1.45V depends on piece of the processor). DRAm voltage set 1.65V or 1.7V. In any event only good Denebs chip can run stable 1866 MHz (example 3h prime95 blend test)! With Thubans or FX will be diferent story...

I have not attempted any manual adjustment to voltages or frequencies (with the exception of the memory frequency - I tried dropping to 1333mHz with the G.Skill memory because I have read the Deneb does not support >1333mHz). Otherwise, I have tried letting BIOS auto-OC to see if it could find some stable settings. I will try the tweaks kindly suggested and report back.

Aren't PSC a little stronger on Deneb than Hypers are clock wise? I was able to do 1844 on deneb stable with hypers...I just thought Hypers were faster on Deneb because 1800 6-6-6 is much better than 1900 7-9-7 or 1800 6-8-6...

MBD does restart as leds on the board flicker & cpu htsnk fan drops rpm & pickups speed again , but issue remains with CPU QLED on SOLID & RC POSTER shows "cpu initial" , I check CPU and made sure there were no bent pins , removed heatsink & found cpu was getting hot to touch, so cpu was getting some current.

EDIT : No beeps from speaker with ram removed & only proc connected. Also cleared cmos using pin , later by removing battery for 1 hour as well but no go. Tried to post with battery removed as well but no go.

Originally, NB/CPU at 1.1V/1.308V, now have it at 1.25V/1.308V and will test. DRAM at 1.493, will leave it there and increase if NB/CPU voltages prove stable. Currently only have one 4GB G.Skill stick in slot 2.

    Point of clarification:
The voltages I posted are under the heading "Extreme OV" in BIOS. "CPU Manual Voltage" is 1.308V and I have been raising the "CPU/NB Manual Voltage" -- currently at 1.275V. There is a section further down with NB-only settings "NB Voltage," NB HT Voltage" etc.

With the settings I stated last post, I ran Prime95 for 30 minutes and it appeared stable, CPU temp no higher than 47*C. I installed the other 4GB stick and instability returned. I raised the CPU/NB voltage to 1.275V, and it seemed the DRAM voltage wanted to be higher as the Auto setting kept increasing the voltage to 1.496 from 1.493. I manually set it one tick higher at 1.5V.

Just received this link from Raja at ASUS: http://www.asusrog.com/forums/showth...ry-Setup-Guide

Helped stability, especially the DRAM Read to Read Timing, and the DRAM Command Rate. My CPU/NB and DRAM voltage is a bit higher from earlier tweakings, but Prime95 has been running for 1.5 hrs now. Good news.

4 wire, I went and set it to PWM in the bios, so hopefully that solved the problem, well see next time I boot up the system cold.

    Crossposted over at OCN: http://www.overclock.net/14685035-post1677.html

Seeing some stability now. Worked with Raja via ASUS Support for a while and this is what we came up with:

With one 4GB DRAM module flashed BIOS to 0051 with no problems (was using 0506). I forgot to save my settings, but remembered most of them. But since BIOS was at default, I just let everything run in auto for a while to observe. BIOS seemed more stable. In 0506 if I was at all auto BIOS would usually freeze within 30 seconds. I poked around for a few minutes with no difficulty; it just "felt" more stable. I attempted to boot Windows and it BSODed in Prime95 within 1 iteration (ntkrnlmp blamed by dump). I rebooted and just let it sit - another BSOD. So BIOS appeared more stable, but Windows not. Went back to BIOS and configured settings as before:
    NB/CPU: 1.3V
    DRAM: 1.5V
    Mem Freq: 1333mHz
ECC: already disabled in 0051 (good change...)
    ASMedia Controller: Disabled
    DRAM Read to Read: 5
    DRAM Command Rate: 2T

Ran Memtest #5 for 15 minutes with no errors. Rebooted and added second 4GB module (so 8GB total, slots 2 and 4 (DIMM_A2, B2)), set mem freq to 1600mHz and re-ran Memtest #5 - ran for an hour with no errors. Prime95 Blend Test:
    Attempt 1: BSOD (ntkrnlmp.exe) within 2 minutes
Attempt 2: Ran for over an hour, no BSOD. CPU got up to 52*C - highest I have seen it, but the ambient temp is 77*F, probably the highest I have tested at. Running stock HSF for now.
