    Question Best DDR @ 2.85v?

    I want to unlock my 2400+, but my XMS3200 cas2.5 will only do 175 at max timings (12.5x175 = 1187MHz ).

My KX7 is not volt-modded, and I don't intend to do that anytime soon, so what will run best at 2.85v max? I've been looking at Corsair or Geil PC3500, these are both rated 2-3-6-3 1T @ 200MHz, the same as PC3200 cas2. Is it worth paying the extra money?

Well my Corsair PC3200 CAS 2 stick is good for 214Mhz turbo timings at 2.70 volts, so Corsair is definitely the ticket.

do not keep fastest timings. you can score way better at medium timings and very high FSB's..

Just one question... where to get the Winbond 4.5ns stuff and how much is it?

238 at those timings is not so spectacular tho?

    I did 238 at cas2 , 7-2-3 2.9V easy with this 5ns Winbonds...

    Hi JC

I agree, 238 is not so spectacular.

If we peltiercool the ram at high mem-volt, the settings can bee realy agressive.

I think you must wait a little for the winbond 4.5
    They are not commersiel yeat.

    Tell me JC,
When you take the sim of the P4, and lover the mounting for the Prometeia how many mhz did you get? I agree with you its a hell to get good contact.

    Tom,

I lowered the whole prometeia evaporator to actually have good contact with the P4 die but I just couldnt make it work.
The best way I ever got working was with a nice shiny (silver) coldplate between the evaporator and core. Its much better contact than the original heatspreader and it got me about 60 MHz more at lower voltage. I have to say, 14 times out of 15 the contact still sucked :\
Its potentially worth it, but you'll reduce the value of your chip to practically nothing, and you will never get the heatspreader back on again. Well you can but it'll add 10-15C to your original core temp

oh and to illustrate, this is my core temp as we speak with intel cooler and the heatspreader back on..... kind of

    stressed temp, mind you

That's what I thought. All my experiments in running higher fsbs with less aggressive settings have got me nowhere.

Also, I cannot set Tras to 7 or 8, only 5 or 6. Same with Trp and Trcd, 2 or 3 only, not 4. So the PC3500 which is rated 2-4-8-4 @ 217 seems no better to me than the PC3200 rated 2-3-6-3 1T @ 200.

3.0v is not an option. What will it do at 2.85v?

I think i'll stick to my Corsair 3500.
It will run at least 240 (480) 2-7-2-3 enhanced, possably more... should be enough to max out my CPU

Well, unlocking my 2400+ gave me another 460 3dMarks at the same cpu speed.

I also got my memory 3MHz higher at max timings and I think it was the cpu copping out at 179 rather than the memory. I've replaced my KX7-333 rev 1.0 with a KX7-333R rev 1.1 since I last benched, either that did it or maybe it was the vmod I've done on my Enermax psu.

Still think I need something better to break 15k though. Is the Winbond 4.5ns the best thing out there then? I know where I can get some of that in the UK.

Mines fine JC. Plates been put back on and temps are lower due to AS3 instead of the white crap intel used.

Was thinking the same as yourself - a silver coldplate. Taking me some time to find one though . Any recommendations where to look?

Niko, Thats some amazing BW!!! He must have gotten the magic stick. My Corsair wouldn't even do 450.

I got my silver cold plate back in the early Ti4600 days from Petervandamned He works at the OC-shop .... they dont have them anymore now I think.
Check out a jewelery store. I believe thats where they got them in the first place
Note , it aint a cheap plate...

Very nice bandwidth! But I have an AMD system, and as spaceboy says above I need it to run max timings - 2-2-5-2 1T, or 2-3-6-3 1T at the very least. My current stick will go well over 200MHz at CAS2.5 and 2T Command Rate but the relaxed timings actually give a lower 3dMark score than 175MHz @ 2-2-5-2 1T. Plus the fact that I have to turn CPU Decode down to Normal at those fsbs.

The more I talk about this, the more tempted I am to just bite the bullet and do the vmod...

Well, as my sig says, I got the 15k after all.

It seems that Command Rate = 1T was not quite as important as I thought as long as all the other timings are at max and CPU Decode = Fast.

Also, my KX7-333R rev 1.1 seems much more stable at high fsb than my old KX7-333 rev 1.0. I could never get that above 175 @ 1T, but managed 181 with my tbird today.

One weird thing - wtf is going on with the 8x multiplier on my tbird? I can run 3dMark at 8.5x181 but not at 8x180! It won't even boot windows at 8x185, even with CR = 2T. I'm sure that 8x192 (1536MHz) would have given me at least 100 points more.
