Yes, completely agree. That video showed nothing innovative. Just derivative shooting mechanics with piss poor graphics and no physics. Don't know what people are seeing in those videos to get excited about. Graphics isn't everything but it is a huge part of gameplay. Pretending they are two distinct things is just silly. Poor graphics can spoil a game no matter how good the gameplay is otherwise. And in those videos the gameplay is nothing special at all.
on my 4850, no AA and 8xAF (no dx11 obviously), and runs great at 1920x1200
when people wonder about how a game should look, they also need to consider what kind of hardware should be needed to run it too. for my weak old card it looks quite nice. however some things seem to be obviously demo based, like paint cans that are octagonal shaped.

If anything, I'd say that graphics are the best of the videos: they look great except for the hand seen in first person, plus it runs great on most hardware. Gameplay is 100% linear as far as I can see though, and that isn't a good thing.

Its as linear as the first deus ex.
Just a copy pasta what people have gathered so far:

What's your point? Tetris, scrabble, chess and solitaire are popular games too. Obviously graphics matter to gameplay only in games that take place in a visually rich environment.
You do realize that console gamers think CoD's graphics are amazing right? Try giving them MW3 with HL1's graphics and see how well it does.

Character animations look very weak. NPC's in the lab are and so forth are doing nothing but hanging around like in a bar. Not much immersion so far in those.
I must confess I just couldn't wait but had to try it out as I will buy it in any case. It feels a lot nicer when you play it yourself, gameplay feels really great from how the UI works from how enemies react during fight as well as the cover system etc.
When in cover you can either stick your gun over the edge and shoot with very suitable bad accuracy with lots of spread that mostly hits from closer distance only or like usual stick your head up and shoot. Then I like how the system to either tap or press the button down to either turn around the edge in cover position or dodge to nearby cover if possible.
Then you can ofc select an active weapon and grenade separately so that when you throw the grenade with the throw grenade button it returns automaticly to your selected weapon.
On "normal" difficulty you already die very quickly from a couple of shots by even 10mm pistol but enemies also die a lot easier than in original Deus Ex. The enemies mostly takes cover but also try to flank you, especially when they are a group. When you sneak up to the enemies you can choose to either take em down or just try make them unconscious. Gunning feels even MORE fun than in original Deus Ex which I never concidered to have any rewarding "gunning"-feel to it but in DX:HR it feels a lot more fun for some reason.
It's quite linear but it allows multiple ways to get to the goal though like typical Deus Ex. I used an alternative way to get inside the warehouse and was rewarded for it.
The communication/dialogs/voice acting is also superb IMO and the videos are also very nicely made.
The UI feels just exactly like original Deus Ex, the music is just as awesome and the atmosphere has this same dark/creepy/deep feeling to it that I classify with Deus Ex. I feel the gfx are fine, it's not the most advanced graphics for sure but it runs smooth as butter which is more important for me as I use a 120Hz LCD and it feels like I'm running constant 120 fps (@ 1680x1050), it really feels smooth all the time without any stuttering at all which is more important to me than looking great. Now I only played it very briefly until you get to the first mission and stopped somewhere in middle of it as I'm unsure if I should play any further or just wait for retail game but it'll be very hard for me to wait for retail game. It's the first game that really WANTS me to play it because of the story and the atmosphere/world/music etc. For me graphics have always been a gimmick that won't capture my interest but these things like story/gameplay/FEEL of the game always does it for me. I hardly ever play any games today as I just don't feel interested for some reason other than playing some scifi shooters online that I'm good at.
Deus Ex Human Revolution is the first game in years that brought back that old feeling I used to have as a small kid when really wanting to play and finish the games as today it's mostly a struggle for me to just find that "interest" to finish the games (as I refuse to believe that I've grown so old that games just doesn't entertain me anymore, I'm only 24 ffs :p).

Yes and you don't realise deus ex was never about graphics, it was about story/atmosphere and different approaches to the objectives and they provide exactly that. Even the first part got critized for "outdated" graphic in 2000 sine it could not compare to Q3.
And your comparison is "weak souce". the graphic in DX:HR is not worse then the first or second part. Play the first game, then play the leak and tell me its not deus ex.
The first mission is basically still a tutorial, when you continue it gets even better, I only say police station...
And your reaction to the leak is nothing to be suprised about, pretty much everyone who played it said the same and even onholes like /v/, people turned 180° in the opinion about the game.
Spoiler:
And there are so many thing to explore and add to the story and atmosphere, the limb clinic is a gold mine, check out the reports and the computers there, you will be quite suprised what they did with jansen or in the intro mission check out the office of Megan quite interesstening stuff about "patient x" there.![]()
That's great. Show me where the story/atmosphere and different approaches to objectives were shown in those clips. You do realize that's what we're basing opinions on here, not some sense of nostalgia.
No thanks, I don't pirate games or play leaks. I'm looking at videos that show generic gameplay AND poor graphics. Doesn't look anything like the original deus-ex. Hence why I don't get what people are excited about. And your comparison is "weak souce". the graphic in DX:HR is not worse then the first or second part. Play the first game, then play the leak and tell me its not deus ex.

Thats your loss, but you can't expect people to deliver vids of every way to approach, hell the offical "gamplay" vid shows already 3 ways to only enter the factory:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HAYqjEhaiXE and thats the first 2min of the game.
And they leave out the option to use the tranq rifle, the tazer, pure stealth right through the enemies, build traps with explosives etc. and later you have all the options you had in deus ex, reprogramm turrets (maybe even bots), go throught vents everywhere, hell you even can rip out the reprogrammed turret and use it as mobile sentry gun with the right augs.
Most peopl showing gameplay do next to nothing to show of the story/backgorund/atmosphere. They are not hacking on computers reading thorught the emails, they don't pick up the PDAs ebooks, dont read the newspaper (who reflect your actions, depending on what you did), tehy usually only do the typical run and gun approach and go from one cutscene to the other.
Honestly you won't understand until you've tried the game yourself so I would just sit back and wait until you've done it (retail/full legit copy in your case). I didn't think it look that impressive from the vids either but heh when I played the leak, I felt it was a totally different game for some reason, I was part of it and I was really immersive as hell and I saw no signs of console dumbed down crap (yes I know it's a console port but they've modified UI so it feels exactly like a PC game should) other than the graphics then which probably looks a whole lot better in retail with DX11/tesselation.

after giving it a go, I thought it's quite nice. Start reminded me of Half Life, graphics aren't bad (DX9). Certainly some issues with controls but otherwise...yeah, not bad.
