yeah honestly ive never had an AMD chip do this and funniest thing is this is the only X6 i ever had so maybe they are better than X4s no idea. CPU's been sitting in my draw for a few months, thought what the heck finally time to play with AMD with 990 since BD is around the corner and 4way SLI is finally possible heh

gotta insulate the board and play Ln2 that's going to be more interesting

anyways looking forward to BD regardless how it compares to intel

Me lost one of Yokos mobo during LN2 testing...with moderate settings before her board went up in smoke..the smell was coming from under the mosfet heatsink and i was running 5GHz @ 1.62v
That sounds like it could be ....fried MOSFET's

5GHz and 1.62 should be easy for the pwm, if it wasnt condensation it might have been a faulty mosfet or something, how come you dont grease up mosfets or at least conformal them?

i will bench LN2 on CPU soon and will report how it goes

shame about the CPU though mate

    AFAIK

Gigabyte is using the same driver-mosfet setup as MSI was on their GD70, correct me if I'm wrong but I think we will see more board failures like that.

Newegg has the GA-990XA-UD3 for $150 plus shipping costs. I am looking towards this one, but I am waiting for a review. Not sure if or how much of a overclocking there is between the 990XA or 990FX.

Newegg doesn't take international paypal payments or CC.

I might go for that one also, maybe it's even better for overclocking, less lanes, less transistors and maybe smaller production size?

Sorry I did not know that. I did the order the board though. Used the Shoprunner trial and the new customer discount at Newegg to get the board for $140 shipped. If I like the board I plan on selling off my current one to offset the cost. Thankfully I have an extra DDR3 ram laying around, so I can wait on a good 2x4GB DDR3 1866 deal.

I like this board for the lower cost and its layout. I can still put my 5770s a few slots apart and put my Creative X-fi Xtremegamer sound card in there. I didn't want to spend the extra bucks on a new sound card just yet to get a proper layout. To top it off it matches the blue LED fans in my Lian-Li case .
