Has anyone tried a 3106B204? Thats what I got back from RMA of my 56x one .... its a costa rica and sn is 1061.

Also which is the best 2x4GB set of rams to get now? I see more now are rated at 1.5v instead of 1.65, so thats good, but I just bought a cheap set of g.skill 2133 only to find they are 11-11-11 ffs no wonder they were cheap.

    i will check my batch numbers tonight but i am running my 2500k @ 4.6Ghz @ 1.31v actual load voltage w/ 16gb 1600mhz of Ripjaws 9-9-9-1N
(given the onboard memcontroller i think the amount and speed of ram is important too sometimes)
the voltage fluctuates a bit so that is which i listed it as such.

if i never went any higher i am happy with the chip.

from here i would need a pretty big jump in Mhz to see any increase in performance, and that means volts and heat.

I'm in the middle of binnig this right now

1.55v it can do 51 multi, I just started though.

But initial stress test on prime95 blend at 4.5 and 1.38v come up with hardware failure errors but no bsod so I think to be able to get stable stress at 5.0 will need around 1.45v

People get so luck with their chips!

Mine needs 1.450~1.460 for 4.8Ghz stability!

Binning Sandy Bridge is extremely easy.

    - use HS fan with easy mounting
    - set Vcore to 1.55V
    - disable HT and 2 cores (to not make it overheat with crappy HSF)
    - increase multiplier

You just need to see the windows OS options, not actually boot into windows. If your CPU can show the different OS options, stability will just be function of Vcore and temperature. If it doesn't show the OS options, you will never get it stable anyways, so you might as well ditch the CPU.

Usually, it takes about 5 minutes to see if the CPU is good or not.

With some CPUs, you do have the issue that some multiplier is better than the other for stability. For instance, my current CPU can boot at 51x MAX (~ 5145MHz). When trying to run near this max speed, I have to use 49x instead of 50x multiplier because it's a lot more stable.

But, that's something you don't need to test. With BCLK adjustments, you'll never get 5200MHz going or so. Multiplier binning is the best way."

how do I set it so that I get the boot options, the only time I was able to select was when I had dual OS

I think you are misunderstanding, if you see Windows loading, i.e. the Windows logo then you are good, if you get a blinking cursor before that then no go. The boot options he is talking about are after a bad overclock.

oh I see, hmm I was able to get to 56x All the way to the windows logo and then it froze. Started at 53x at 1.55v. I tried 1.6v and still couldn't get passed the Windows logo screen. I was able to boot and actually use windows at 1.55v 52x multiplier, so I'm guessing unless I'm under water I can't get to 50x multi since I believe that that I'll need more than 1.45 vcore.

Time to try out this i7 2600k Batch # 3104C328

I should really be studying for my final tomorrow haha

What LLC were you using? Or were you even using LLC?
Also to see your real max boootable multiplier, set the # of cores to 2 and disable HT. That way, if the vcore is high enough and the CPU isn't at its wall, it will load windows.

I was using Ultra High, what LLC should I use?

That's exactly what I did, disabled HT and used only 2 cores

How is that the "real" max multi if you are most likely going to use four cores and HT, unless your benching 3D03 or SuperPi? "Real" max multi should be with all guns firing, not crippled to a dual core....

Has anyone found that a particular motherboard will get better clocks out of these cpus? Or are the results more or less the same regardless of mobo? I have a P8P67 EVO and its been great so far, I was just wondering if a higher end mobo will help cpu clocks at all.

Heres average scaling of 2600K (imo)...

Say your max multi is 55X 4C/4C with air @ decent Vcore then most likely your max. multi on good h2o cooler will be 55X, 56X or 57X

With good single stage cooler we can find max. Mhz.....ie. Max 55X then it will be walled @5550Mhz or 5595Mhz and it goes the same with 56X, 57X even 58X and 59X (exept 59X chip probly can go 6Ghz+)

Ln2 cooling might or might not open up Mhz. wall, if it scale with colder than -50C then it probly a real "gem".

2C/2T will help to tame the heat, but probly not much for Multi scaling or Mhz. wall.

Max. multi or Mhz. wall will be the same on all P67 board with little variation. Dunno about Z68..

So let me get this right, to say you have a max multi of XXx you must be able to boot into windows at either 2c or 4c?

Pretty much so, and most likely it will scale up with more cooling.

Don't have any screens right now but this is what I have achieved so far:

    2600K - L051A959 on Z68X-UD4

    4.5GHz
    1.34V VCore
    1.10V Vtt
    0.92V SA
    1.8V PLL

Temps after running Prime for around 30 minutes are 55C on the coolest core to 60/61C on the hottest core. (HAF-X, TR Archon) I'm still working on lowering that VCore while keeping it stable.
