Friend: Do you have a spare PSU lying around?
Me: No why?
Friend: My PSU just blew up, I think the second 8800GTX might have been too much for it to handle
Me: what PSU was that again?
Friend: Antec 480w

Not much for me although I do like the colour scheme
I am not getting one for myself but I *do* happen to need 5 of them quite urgently to finish off customer builds![]()

Almost $400.00 for a X58 Chipset Motherboard...Yikes! Why so expensive?
You can buy a dual socket server motherboard for less than a $100.00 more.
Thats just insane for a end user motherboard!

yea that was the initial price estimates, I think its priced as is because they want it to compete against the other boards in its class. The thing is to the general public, "if its priced to low something is wrong with it". That is why you have the G1 Assassin and the R3E BE priced so goddamn high. That and the fact that its run is small and delayed and that its target audience isn't only extreme ocers, hurt the price even more. But that is my speculation.
Then it wouldn't have SATA6G, USB 3.0, or audio. lol Even the 4G button. They could have also left out the heatsink for the DrMOS and just gave us those early silver heatinks like you have. They could have also left out the LEDs in the heatsinks too.
The fact that those parts are in the board means that extreme ocers, even all ocers aren't the target market.
The thing is that as much as we might like to think that we(overclockers) are a large enough market segment we just are not. That is why other companies don't make products just aimed at OCers, its a great idea, and they did it correctly by leaving SATA6G USB 3.0 and Audio in so that normal users will buy the board as well, or those users who want to get into OCing, and to those users price of a product means a lot.
Even to me when i came back to OCing I wanted a great X58 board, and I overlooked any board under $250 because of the simple fact that under $250 is considered low end for X58. The price we pay is part of the product.
While this price is very high in my mind, for a board so late in the game, it still is more value in terms of hardware than the UD7 or UD5 has, the pure cost of the parts used on this board drive its price high.
This doesn't mean i approve of saying $280 and then 5 months later on release day charging more, it means i understand. Paying that much for an X58 board at this time is not something I am going to enjoy doing, it is something I am going to do nevertheless as overclocking isn't a cheap sport to begin with.
Yes i do dislike the price but i still do enjoy the product.
If they wanted to just target extreme ocers then they could make 500 boards and sell 90%. Although we might be a much larger community you still gotta factor in the fact that this board is late in the game and that not everyone will buy a new board at this time, and a gigabyte board at that as brand loyalty is still in play. There are people who will buy an R3E BE for almost double its price to clock a gulftown. '
This board can do 250blck with slow mode pretty easily.

Yeah, and they dedicated an entire microsite to prove how much general audience they want to target: http://www.gigabyte.com/MicroSite/265/x58a-oc.html. I mean, it's literally there: "The GIGABYTE X58A-OC is the world’s first motherboard designed specifically for overclocking."
Don't start playing a ton of BS cards now that turns out it's more expensive than we all anticipated. It just is. Why? Dino said this: "It was planned to be released even cheaper but some delays and changes have increased the cost of production unfortunately." Perhaps it's like you say and the sales people were too afraid. All I read on (different) hardware forums is that non-overclocking people simply digg the colors and would consider buying the board at a lower price point. And for fcks sake, no the general audience will not buy this board for stereo audio, a sata 6g port and a few usb holes.
Does this change everything that has been written about this board, as a concept or as a product? No. Each and everyone of us knew that a project like this comes at a (metaphorical) cost. After all, this type of board is something sales people do not see everyday. Compromises have to be made. It's upto each and every individual to decide whether the compromise is still worth the purchase. Are you horrified, but still want to 'support' this particular type of product, chances are great it'll be a painful-akward moment when you take out your credit card.
We can discuss this at length over and over again, but it won't change the facts. A solid, stable board with high-end pwm, feature-poor and at an interesting price point ... that's what not only overclockers, but plenty of enthusiasts want (yes, perhaps even need). Just like with many of my childhood paintworks, the theory was very good but the excecution could have been a bit better. Doesn't mean you have to throw away the theory, just means you have to learn now and improve next time. Lesson in this case being: don't create delays, don't make it a tad too expensive.
Where courage, motivation and ignorance meet, a persistent idiot awakens.
not just for overclocking.. every motherboard should be made fully poscaped
just got mine earlier today.. whatta beauty..
oh and thanks for the 470uf capacitance much appreciated

You don't get marketing do you? its all about selling the product, giving a board like this made for overclockers really will sell it to non overclockers... SATA6G and USB 3.0 are MUST haves when selling an X58 board for this price.
I am not defending anything and I haven't changed my story at all, I always knew this board would end up costing more, and i haven't refereed to it as otherwise. $380 isn't that much compared to $450 rumors on HWbot, maybe $100 more than planned, but compared to other boards like the UD9 and R3EBE and Bigbung its well priced. IMO they priced it to compete at the retail level. I don't like it but that is how it goes and that is what I am trying to say. $280 was a great rpice for this board, but that is my take on why they priced it the same as other boards of its class.
And yea SATA6G will sell this board to a few ppl, you have no idea how many want RAID 0 for SATA6G SSDs, and FYI marvell SE9182 can do it and pretty damn good, rather than Marvell SE9128. I am on many forums everyday, this being one of the more extreme, and I saw many buy the G1 series for the SATA6G IC. You can never predict why someone will buy a board.
not everyone has to agree with you either.
