There IS a way to mod all these unmoddeble X800!!!

    Hello guys!

A very good Polish overclocker/modder- "Lancer", described over @ Twojepc.pl a way of flashing a X800PRO Sapphire (the XT one) to a XT!!!

Ill translate the whole article for you guys later, now ill give you a short description:

    1. Downlowad the ATI Flasher

    2. Download the Gigabyte X800XT PCI-X bios

    3. Flash

    4. Check if everything works

    5. If there are any artifacts reflash to a standart XT bios and reset all your tweaking programs- everything should work now

Lancer belives that the PCI-E bios overrites some data in the EEPROM wich are there for the missing texture units, overitting with different data causes them to start working. Normal ATI biosed dont do it (leave some parts of data untouched) not unlocking bioses!

I think that bios did work because now every single mirror gives a 404. I think ATI asked them to remove it.

I can't download the bios at all from the website.

Would it be worth it to try on a BBATI x800pro?

I just tried it for my BBATI card.

    does nothing for me.

on a side note the clock speeds of this one are alittle lower then the regular X800XT bios, at only 520/560.
it would be a decent BIOS for a card that can't hand running 570 on the memory.

I read on another forum that this "mod" only works on the cards with the xt core, 1.6ns ram, and the theater chip.

But my pro has all of that, and it still didn't work. Back to the drawing board

A few people on the rage3d board were trying this and none of them got it to work either.

I made some test yesterday on a vivo and normal pro card and these are the results:

    - vivo cards with AD chipset and 4A50 Asic code are real XT cards locked in bios. With the gigabyte bios you can enable 16 pipes without any trouble. You must use gigabyte flash program.

    - pro cards with AA chipset and 4A49 Asic code for the moment don't work even with pins connected (hardmod) and gigabyte XT bios.

I think on pro cards there are now 3 levels of protection:

    - an hardware lock due to lasercut (conductive paint can unlock)

    - a bios lock (gigabyte bios will unlock)

    - a driver lock that interrogates Asic to obtain 4A50 code but unfortunately the pro card replies 4A49

These are my tests and thoughts.

    Any comment?

Isnt there a way to change the asic code? I think I saw a tool that did it.

    Ah, here is it: http://www.radeon2.ru/bios/util/RaBiT-1.0a.zip

This night I will try it and let you know the results.

P.S. the tool that you suggested doesn't recognize x800 bios and changes only the device id in the bios. Asic code is hardcoded in the chipset and the only way to fool drivers is to write a daemon that incercepts the driver call to asic and replies the right code.

For me is theoretically clear but pratically impossible.

    Bye,

dont get me wrong, its fun to mod those, but keep in mind its lots of trouble and risks where you can just get a real x800xt for $100 more and besides, it has 1.6ns ram. a modded x800pro to xt will still be bottlenecked by the slower 2ns ram

Here in germany you won't be getting any XT within the next 2 months!

Every X800 Pro ViVo has 1.6ns RAM, those are really only downlabeled X800 XTs.

BUT who says the 1.6ns mem is better than the 2.0ns one?
Both will go to anywhere from 570-600 mhz in most cases.

that programs got the same problem every other ATI bios editing program has.
it won't open X800 Bios's, no matter what you do.

on a side note, it looks like an amazing program for the older cards up to the 9800XT.
even gives you the option of reprogramming the cas of the ram on the videocard.
