Just got back from Fry's Electronics in Fountain Valley, Southern California. The price of the EVGA GeForce GTX 590 Dual-GPU is $719.99, scheduled to be released tomorrow morning at store opening (8:00am PDT). The store only expects to receive two units, and most of the nearby stores in the Greater Los Angeles metropolitan region are expecting 1 unit or none at all.

Regardless, I'm looking forward to purchasing two EVGA GeForce GTX 590 Dual-GPUs on launch day. My pennies have been saving more than seven months in advance for this incredibly sick Quad-SLI 40nm GF110 configuration!

fudzilla saying price will be US $699

    http://www.fudzilla.com/graphics/ite...tx-590-pricing

We already heard a couple of rumours regarding the price of the upcoming Nvidia Geforce GTX 590 dual-GPU card that was originally planed to be launched at around €749 or so depending on the region, but we restrained ourselves due to the fact that we also heard that there might be some last minute adjustments to the price. It looks like our sources were spot on with that info as the new price, or to be precise, the real launch price will be set at US $699/€649 incl. VAT.

What the....sound pressure meters should NEVER be up up against the source. It will end up picking up too much low-level air movement.

also arnt most db ratings taken from 1' outside of the front of a closed case, to represent to were a person would sit. but then if TT is doing the same thing for all cards then u guess its useable.

How can one trust a site that can't even get the measurement rite. The only explanation could be they never had the card, in that case how could they measure the noise level.

The diference is actualy 1 inch (2.54 cm)
The reference HD 6990 is 12 inch (30.5cm) long, according to rumors the GTX 590 is 11 inch (28cm) long.

In order to assure a consistent environment, IMO an open environment should be used. Especially considering every case on the market has different acoustical properties.

Well I gotta say when speculation was on I was 99% sure it was gonna be a 570 in there , they pulled off 2 x 580 in that compact form amazing, and the performance so far is also looking good, ofc imo anyone with half a brain and was spending this sorta money anyways should wait for the asus gigabyte custom cards

I disagree. Even if acoustics are different from one case to another one would get an idea of what to expect. A disclaimer saying "noise will vary from one case to another" is all that would be needed to keep readers informed IMO.

The gist of it is that it would allow readers to get an idea of what to expect from PC cases using of 2-4 fans already running in the background. Versus an open bench with 0-2 fans.

To a certain extent I agree. But what about extremely quiet cards? There would be no way to tell one from another if the case fans drown them out as they would have no impact upon the decibel readings.

Decibel readings done outside of a case in a controlled environment are not meant to recreate real wold scenarios. They're meant to accurately compare one card to another in the most accurate way possible without outside influences.

But isn't that looking at the forest instead of the tree? That would be a perfect example of showing the readers what to expect. If a reviewer wants to provide data of the video card fan I can't see why that couldn't be added. But for all intent and purpose letting people know that a 3 fan PC case is louder then the actual video card at idle and/or load would be something that readers would like to know. But that's just my opinion, to each his own .

My only question is what sort of fan would you use during this test? Really quiet ones (noctua) or not so quiet ones? I think that's what SKYMTL is getting at. If you put a case in front of the card, the case will be part of the noise and you won't get an accurate reading. If the case is louder than the card, the quietest reading will get is that of the case fans.

I see where SKYMTL is coming from, and his methodology makes sense. It's not designed to be representative of the real world. It's scientifically designed to figure out which card is the most quiet.

I kinda see it more looking at the tree instead of the forest, it has more of an emphasis on the video card alone, the focus.

Your making it more difficult then need be. You simply use the fans that come with the case.

Then we disagree won't we? Because PC case users have no reference when an open bench is used. Just hearing the fan on the card is not a good way to convey what a reader may hear with their pc case.

Whatever the price this card is an engineering marvel. Really ATI's effort is already impressive but to fit such monsterous cores in such a small and evidently quiet package, this is a killer card. Although expensive you can understand why and the materials look top shelf. I'll bet it also OC's like hell as Fermi loves extra juice (new fastest card here we come). Love to see what can happen with a die shrink for Fermi.

I'm enjoying the 'new' nivdia; stay quiet and just release cards, no need for their previous crap remarks.

For the apparent difference in heatsink quality, I would to point out that the GPU cores in the 6990 and GTX590 have different thermal profiles.

Can't wait to see all the reviews tomorrow. Though it is easy to guess performance, I want to see some hard figures.
