    I'm talking 2 cards against 2 cards. Not 3 against 2.
You're carrying on about 3 gpu's against 2 gpus relative to pricing, it should obviously have more performance potential.

3 570's fit into the same price and performance segment appealing to the same buyers.

Who cares as long as performance is still there. At that point its already a crossfire or sli setup so its not like comparing a crossfire setup to a single gpu solution.

That was my original point more or less, 6990+6970 outperforms two 580 at the same price point but so does 3 570's at the same price point.

It's not a big deal really.

    Somebody ask W1zzard about this

If that turns out to be true, then we have a winner

Nice find, hope it's true, that is almost fully clocked 580s. If SLI on a card is more efficient than normal SLI then it could be faster than x2 580's.

I can't believe real specs and photos have not leaked yet, this is one of the most anticipated cards ever.

one thing your forgetting , the card actually has to work.

Last 6 months 4 ati cards and every one had problems, half of the problems screen flicker etc are across the all cards and driver related.

same setup switched to nvidia 570 sli and no problems.

oh well.... if that is true then it will be faster then a 6990 no question about it.... I would be surprised tho to see clocks so high on a card with the full 512 shaders though...

maybe thats GTX590's version of HD6990's "switch", making the card run above 375W

I don`t think that the 590 will be able to be as quiet as it's said to be if NV wants to beat the 6990. And if what TechPowerUp posted about its clocks is true, then there is no way it will be quiet.(then again this could be a GTX480 scenario all over again with temperatures resembling those of the Sun's surface)

They have gone batty if they want to charge 799 for something with 612 mhz specs and what will likely perform worse than the competition.

It's not the first time shops list cards before they go out for increase their traffic, so don't jump on this now thanks ( for price and spec )... even if it look... huum official ?

I will make a bad joke, but you have heard the fanboy: " yes it's but it's quieter of the 6990 !!!!! "

Put it under water and how does it clock?

And the pre-launch price could easily be inflated (if it is even real).

What did you guys think it was going to be $500 bucks? You know Nvidia wants this to beat the 6990 but you have to realize that can't beat there own cards in SLI as well. This card will be between two GTX570's & the GTX580's in SLI in performance I bet..

It's 612MHz so I am pretty sure it will be slower than 6990, albeit at ranges of 5-10%. What I heard puts it miles ahead of 6990 when it comes to noise, however.

If it was similarly priced to 6990 it could be a choice that's as good as the 6990, but anything more expensive is quite dumb.

The 6990 by itself isn't a very good buy either. So I'd say keep clear of dual-GPUs this generation, and if you need something faster than a 6970 or 580 (can't guess why you would, if you're not running multiple monitors), go with 6950CF or 6970CF.

Unless you plan on putting the cards on water. That is what I love about dual GPU cards. first of all it's one less water block. It's a lot cheaper than getting 2 cards and 2 waterblocks.

    honestly... you know what...
whoever considers a 6990 OR 590 wont mind 100$ more or less...
like i said before, i think having a polished off product that is quiet, cool, looks nice is more important than speed...
so what, a is 10% faster than b... but its noisier, runs hot, has worse support in games, looks worse...
    get what i mean?

if i had the dough and were to choose... and both get the job done, and hey we are talking dual monster gpus here so YEAH, both easily get anything done you throw at them... then a few percentage points more or less in performance wont impress me, but whichever looks better, sounds better, is running cooler, has better support in drivers with frequent updates and good dual gpu support... thats the one im going to get...

but thats for gaming... for benching perf is all that matters, and for many perf under water or ln2 will be all that matters...
i think in the latter nvidia probably has an advantage, cause if they use dual 580 gpus and cooling and power is taken out of the equation by enthusiasts, then they should clearly beat dual 6970s...

    for gaming, we will see...

    Yes, we get it.

The excuses and spins are already starting, even before the card is officialy out and none really knows about it's real performance, temperatures and noise levels.

In regards of overclocking, while I can see that the potential is there with so much downclocked cores, I would be worried about cooling them with a non-stock cooling solution, be it air, water or ln2, due to the close proximity of power supply plugs and the second GPU core.
