    Hehehahaha!

I'm still saying that Audigy #1 had problematic hardware, not drivers. I played with one last month and it was never stable. That's after 7 different driver installs. 3 driver sets being 3rd party, one of them by Daniel K.

Straight face, Audigy 2ZS running problem free, X-Fi platinum the same! X-Fi Prelude in the HTPC impressing everyone who's hears it.

    Hi,

I "upgraded" from xp 32 to win7 ultimate 64 last night. Everything was working perfecly under xp. Now win7 isn't recongizing the Forte. I downloaded the most recent drivers from Auzen (azt_forte71_v1.21_swpack_30jul10) and nothings been working. When I click on the x-fi console launcher, it says "there are no supported audio device available. You need to close the application. Click OK to close the application now." I've uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers many, many times. I even did a clean install of win7 again and installed the Forte drivers first thing, but with no luck.

In the device manager under sounds, the only thing that's there is 'high definition audio device.' I've made sure that my onboard realtek is disable.

Another thing is that I am recieving sound from the Forte though. I can play music, movies, etc. and hear them well. I can't, however, hear anything from my headphones when I plug them to the headphone jack behind the card.

I've just about given up on this. Anyone have any ideas? Is there a specal way to instal the drivers? I just bascially run the setup in the audio folder. Out of curiosity, I went into 'properities' and under the 'compatability' tab, I don't see Win7 listed. Maybe this is the cause?? If I can't get this resolved, I'll go back to good 'ol xp. Thanks.

Right click the Speaker Icon in the Toolbar's start up area, lower right side. The click Mixer under the slider to the left. Set the default as X-Fi and not HD Audio. The system is seeing your HD Audio as the default Device.

The problem is and has always been Vista and Windows 7's Protected Paths. This moved Hardware Audio Cards, Hardware Modems and even Video into User Mode instead of System Mode. Software sounds cards. modems, controllers and etc............. Have fewer problems because that's were they were always ran.

    Vista Desync

I'm having trouble getting the most out of my Forte.

Under Vista, sometimes I able to "trick" the "Auzentech Audio Control Panel" into keeping 2.1 output while Windows Control Panel keeps 5.1 or 7.1 as speaker configuration.

As some of you know, this isn't a problem in XP at all. I used to have a Prelude with XP SP2, I could uncheck the "synchronize with control panel" option in Auzentech's control panel while keeping Windows speaker config under 7.1. The sound was great, it was as if I was actually getting 5.1 / 7.1 sound with stereo headphones.

But with Vista, I can't do this. There isn't a synchronization button to play with. If I set Windows to say, 5.1, the Auzentech panel will also say 5.1, there's no way for me to have them with different settings. Only sometimes if I mess around with the two enough, it will actually give me 7.1 in Windows and 2.1 in Auzentech panel, but that's just a glitch, it's not a foolproof way for me to get what I need out of this card.

So I wanna know, have any of you been aware of this? Have you been able to tweak this option with Vista or is this not possible at all?

Why on earth are you using Vista?!

    *shudders*

I have a question for you guys. My console launcher takes FOREVER to switch modes, change settings, even opening it take awhile. I don't remember exactly when this started happening or why, but I have uninstalled/cleaned/installed the drivers to no avail. Anyone else deal w/ this?

Well I want to go to 7 with a good SSD but money is quite strapped right now. I could get Home Premium for 100 but I want pro or ultimate and they cost way more. No student discounts in Canada, at least they're not easy to get.

Would there be a way to desync the soundcard away from windows' control panel in 7 as you are able to in XP?

I had some slow down when changing modes as well, but that was probably due to a flaky driver install. You should uninstall all the creative/auzentech files in safe mode, use driver sweeper, delete any traces and go from there.

BTW, I'm using the Daniel K forte driver set, and I have had less trouble with them than Auzentech's latest drivers. In case you're having problems trying DK, it might work out better for you.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Does that include the latest version of the driver? It seems a few steps back. Also, what about this openal 64 bit fix I'm seeing?

The Auzenpack 1.0 or whatever from June 2010 should be the latest. The 64bit openal fix I'm not sure about, but I doubt it's anything significant.

I added this tweak to my Reg to disable X-Ram, It has been a week or so without issue. Prior to this tweak I would get the distortion once or twice a day.

    Code:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Creative Tech\Driver\PCI&VEN_1102&DEV_0005]
Create a new DWORD (32-Bit) Value named: DisableXRAM

Right click the DisableXRAM value and edit, Value data: 1

Yeah X-Ram is BS. I dunno if games have to be programmed for X-Ram for it to function but I highly doubt it does very much. You won't get any extra performance due to some 64 tiny mbs of ram on a soundcard due to how powerful today's CPUs already are.

And even if it worked you'd get no more than a mere 1fps performance wise

Yeah, it is a one more of the gimmickzzzz from Creative's workshop. This time labeled Stup1dity according to Movieman

Xram doubled my framerate and made all my dreams come true. I would recommend overclocking it to ensure the explosions get there faster though.

I could be wrong but I think games do need to support x-ram and there are only a handfull of those.

Yeah hehehehe! Folks who don't know what's it for, meant or why blindly bashing oh brother. They tried something they thought was needed but Technology past it and many other good ideas at the time, bye. Zip Drives and Floppies use to serve a very good purpose but where are they now?

    http://techreport.com/articles.x/9599

"""Note that the performance drop from 10 to 30 voices is much less significant with X-RAM caching uncompressed audio, as well. Of course, considering that these tests were conducted by Creative using a special build of the Unreal Tournament engine that won't be publicly released, they may represent a best-case scenario for X-RAM's performance impact.""

Easy to program for but was never really implemented but it is easier to call it a Gimmick.

Good luck getting it sold! A friend just sold one on EBay for $130 and the buyer paid shipping because he wanted it over night-ed.

Nope. I had a pretty lame looking ad though. Here's the new one. I'll put it up on a few forums later today if it doesn't sell.

No, I meant it is the best thing evar, memory which you pay decent sum for which doesn't have any impact outside of the Wonderland you're living at in the games newer than 2004, and it's usability being somewhere in the G15 LCD screen's range. A real must-have.

Quit acting here like you know better than anyone else. I think people here are little fed up with it from a guy who's advocating Forte's superior sound quality while being digitally hooked to a receiver

Naw, you're wrong about Me and X-RAM. If programed for X-RAM did better than what you claimed=P Back when it was conceived, it made sense. But since then technology (Hard and Soft ware) caught and passed it, making it obsolete.

What I was pointing out is that whole Stup1dity product line, together with this x-ram was aimed at poorly educated gamers who don't know what dac, adc, snr etc. are, but sure know who Jonathan Wendell is. Marketing rule #1 - create a need. You can't pwn if you don't have one.

I would trade that nonsense for solid state caps anytime, for example.

I think X-RAM wasn't a bad idea. It just wasn't adopted due to Vista ditching EAX (and thus Creative for the most part).
