A continue from this thread, beating octacores 110,5k in 3dmark2001se with AMD cpu has been a long time project for me. Last time I couldn't get Crosshair III to cooperate + cpu really sucked. This time I got it figured out with another cpu.
Hardware used
- ASUS Crosshair III Formula bios 1602
- 2x2GB Dominator GT 1600 cl6 hyyypers
- EVGA 9800GX2 with ek fullcover wb
- Corsair TX750
- x2 555 1046EPM #932 4 cores
- Dragon evo pot
To be able to bench with Crosshair III you need a good amount of airflow EVERYWHERE. I had to skip my TEC cooler for rams cause I needed airflow on dimm side.
I used kneaded eraser to cover backside of dimms and mosfets.
I put a heatsink on the pwm controller and had a powerful 80mm blowing on it the whole time. Thanks for the tip chew
The rig covered with fans and rocking it in 01
Now I had zero problems with condensation and stability! Unfortunately not even my new 555 were good, but I managed to push it to 6300MHz after many crashes on 6250.. It was just a great run with everything pushed to it's maximum and my only one over 110k. But it was enough, just look at that CL
I think the key to beat people with 6500-6600+ cpus was my choice of vga. G92 gives better Highs and it seems AMD can't make use of the power in GTX295 to compensate for the loss in CH, DH, LH. With vgpu, vmem, ocpmod and some brute force 9800gx2 is a better choice. Here goes OCP mod for gx2, too late for most people but I had good use of it.
Now I wait for bulldozer.
