You are wrong Sam, Nvidia didn`t give any news about their own dual GPU card, there were only rumors and speculations(like yours) about it. That`s it! But we all tend to agree that however it will turn out, Nvidia`s own flagship card will be either a monster or it will be a complete failure like the the first Fermi(only this time doubled).

Hm, the first Fermi wasn't a complete failure, actually. It was too late to the market, too hot / power hungry and came with a few units disabled, but it did offer competitive performance (especially when it came to tessellation).
It wasn't awesome, but it had its strong sides. I'd just call it a flop.

Yeah, none of these are official announcements, but usually they tend to "leak" info "intensionally", and then some rumors will surface too. This is usually an indication that a new GPU is just around the corner. But as said, we don't know yet. We have to wait and see.

I don't look at it as nVidia vs AMD, or their history to defend this or that one. I'm not employed, or get sponsored or paid by any of these, in any way. I usually try to make my independent analyses based on my own ideas and meanings. Those who disagree, are free to challenge it with constructive arguments, and without personal attacks.

Nvidia to unveil dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 in mid-March

Nvidia is expected to unveil its dual-GPU GeForce GTX 590 graphics card in mid-March 2011 at the earliest and AMD will release its Radeon HD 6990 a month later. Competition between the two graphics chip makers will benefit Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), according to sources from graphics card makers.

Affected by the rise in APUs (IGP packaged with the CPU). AMD and Nvidia are both seeing dropping demand in the entry-level graphics card market and therefore are shifting their focus toward performance and high-end markets.

Although AMD has already unveiled its dual-GPU Radeon HD 6990, the company has decided to delay the official launch until after Nvidia launches the GeForce GTX 590 to prevent Nvidia from changing the GTX 590's design after reviewing the Radeon HD 6990, the sources noted.

Despite that consumer demand for high-end graphics cards is normally not high, the launch of high-end models can still help boost overall graphics card sales and with Intel's defective chipset incident already resolved, PC demand in the IT channel is expected to see an obvious recovery, the sources noted.

Currently, Nvidia and AMD's shares in the global graphics cards market are 60% and 40%, respectively, the sources added.

Exactly! The Geforce FX series was a total failure, the Fermi was as you say, a flop, which was more disappointing than anything as it had a lot of potential.

Fermi Mk 2 aka GTX 580 is a lot better, I am curious to see how this dual GPU card turns out.

Well whatever is the result, if this card use 2x GF110 it will be a real pretty engineering piece.. pushing 2x 550mm2 of transistor on a pcb is not an easy task to cool and power.

This card certainly will be every folders dream, the only problem is if nv will be able to find some room on that PCB to put a beefy VRM solution in place and if they will be able to keep the card from melting itself. Also it would be cool to see dual 8-pin plus an optional 6-pin so one is not limited by power demand when going water or extreme cooling.

What kind of power is required for this guy whenever it comes out?

I've always been reluctant to get an sli-all-in-one card, but since I went mini ITX, it's my only real option as an upgrade from a gtx470.

Lets hope 600w PSUs can handle it!

    umm, don't know about that:

Since reviewers already have the 6990 in their hands I'd say it's launch is imminent.

i liked what they said in the other article " Expect a near 1000 Euros card, in limited quantities ".
AMD, imo, is going to win this war... not by having the fastest dual GPU but by having the fastest dual GPU that most people can buy instead of robing a bank to buy the freaking 590 but never getting to the store to do it because after robing the bank, they're always caught by "da police"

And i still think these will be GF110's chips but very downgraded What i know by reading rumors is that no one knows zip! If someone defends a rumor but, just because, decides to say "hmmm maybe it's not a gf110 after all, maybe it's gf114 ... " or " hmmm maybe it will have 2 fans and not 1 " ... then ... that will start spreading all over and people change opinions in a blink of any eye ehehehe

I wasn't sure if linking is such a good idea, you know, NDA and all, but I guess NVIDIA and AMD are keepin' an eye on his blog anyway.

Also, the card name is very easy to fake, edit a single registry entry and it's done.

I get like an average of 40 FPS on my GTX 580 at 1920x1080 with 16xQ, I wonder if this benchmark is legit or not. And also, I want to see specs.

It seems too high for Enthusiast, and too low for the quality under ( gamer ).. i have try compare with 4 different reviews and nothing match with 2x 580 SLI numbers (ofc it's allways hard to compare different system ), the scores looks or too high compared to 2x GTX580 SLI ( and overclocked ) for Enthusiast, and too low for under level ... i don't say it's not legit but something is maybe wrong somewhere.

    Then the date on the benchmark run : 17/11/2010 / 01:35:56 ?
