i'll try it under SS tomorrow or later this week to see if i can improve, then i'll start benching it 2d/3d

Hey man it isn't that bad. These things are still fast at 5.4. The best one out of 7 2600Ks for me was 5.3g.

Sounds like this ram is the old version which dies easily... hope it doesn't fail and I need to figure out how to RMA if possible...

54 is definately a good chip - there are a lot of 52 and below.
I would say 52, maybe 52-53 is average.
Your chip is for sure well above average,

    Congrats on your acquisition!
I think I have the same memory and I've been very happy with it.
It's the same set that I've been running at 1.88v so much.
Since I'm dead in the water on SB for the moment maybe I'll fire up the x58 UD7/W3520 and test this memory a little better.

As you suggested before, one stick at a time and what app's?
I wonder if the memory controller will limit me?

You might be able to run 1100mhz or more memory depends on the CPU I think.
    Have fun!

Don't worry about memory on this setup Linux, you wont be pushing it at all because the only ratio that works well on this platform is 2:6 (4:12) so they will be way below threshold

Yeah I'm not too worried about it with this setup.
Just not sure if it'd last if I push it in a different setup...

N00bie question here: What is that you are using to insulate the board with? Looks like a really easy solution...

Eraser works ok... but conformal rocks.
This dragon skin stuff seems to be somewhere in the middle.

Ok, thanks for the info. I used both conformal and eraser on my REX, witch was my first board prep. Went ok, the board didn't die The Dragon stuff just looks like its really easy and fast to apply, the eraser takes some time for me to do.

I usually do both conformal (brush on, let it dry, preferrably overnight) and then eraser over that with shop towel overall - is this overkill?

Would I be ok with just conformal (maybe multiple conformal coats) and shop towel?

I think if you did the conformal right and covered everything, you really don't need eraser except a tiny bit around the socket.
