Well, theres few things to consider.
a.) Thats a beta so its probably LESS optimized, retail should perform better
b.) In DX11 mode there can be a performance HIT, however, some things DX11 should do more efficiently.
c.) Crysis 2 was built from ground up to be multiplatform, that limits its engine use greatly, crysis 1 would just not run on xbox or ps3.

Taking all this into equation, logical conclusion would be it probably wont be more hardware demanding than crysis 1 (which still is most demanding title in my book, metro is just plain wrong coded, doesnt offer much for its painfully slow rendering)
But thats ofcourse just my opinion ;-).
Anyhow, you still would need dual gpu solution to play it on highest settings with highest resolution ay ~60FPS.

So... the good times of GTX 295 and 5970 ... meh ... i don't see these new solutions being as good in practical terms as the old ones ( yes, they will be quicker, but i don't believe it will have the same "equilibrium" )
They should actually be quite a bit better since both CF and SLI scaling have improved. While they might be a little late, the next refresh probably will not happen till the fall so you should get around 6 months of use before you see new cards out and based on how long it was between the last dual GPU's and these I would imagine it will be about 2 years before these are replaced.

and hopefully like the last dual gpus, these will also last over 2 years and be able to max out almost any game

no doubt. I am keeping my 5970 for a while, it maxes out any game I play in eyefinity so i will probably wait to upgrade a pair of 680s when they come out, or a dual 6xx card.

Yeah, I'm going to wait every two gen before making an upgrade, I survived on an Intel GMA 950 for 4 years at any rate....

This generation suffered by being stuck on TSMC's 40nm process.

As it seems they have use the " leaked " crysis2 version, i will not even consider thoses numbers whatever is the reason, as i just don't know how they have been able to run a bench on it in good condition .. it's an old alpha release, bugged as hell, sound is not working correctly, you get the debug who kick time to time.. missing textures etc etc.. performance can be better or worse, impossible to know before get the final version.

ya thats kinda what I was trying to get at. my personal experience with the alpha version was I was only able to play the first level and even so it was the most buggy game thing I have ever seen. textures missing all over the place and whatnot. I was able to get it running on another machine as well but that lasted literally 5 seconds before it crashed. and it never worked on any of my systems using ATI cards....

I decided to stop trying to make it work because I would rather wait for the full version where I can get the full experience including the story all at once... one thing I did notice however is that the game has been somewhat consolized

back on topic though a 6990 should have no issues maxing this game out Crytek has said multiple times that it won't be much harder to run than Warhead

I think the info was, reviewers allready get the 6990 in their hand.

They have a different approach of other review sites that's sure.

I mean sometimes their choice are a bit discutable.. but anyway they test resolution you rarely see.. 5760x1200.

but one example.. you see them use 16xCSAA and you read: this was the max quality, but in reality 16xCSAA is less demanding of 8x MSAA... on Nvidia cards.

Here's a comparaison of framerate with the different AA mode published on Nvnews GTX580 review... ( can differ from a game to another )

this offering seems to have the gpus further apart than the 5970, maybe this will improve its cooling capacity

    BREAKNG NEWS!

Sam oslo comments on the news that Kyle from hard ocp has the 6990:
Reporter -What do you say of this news sam ?
Sam_Oslo -Amd just tries to steal GTX590`s thunder and glory by releasing some "info" about their "cards" through their "friends", its unfortunately futile attempt as GTX 590 Will crush AMD and it will probably mean the end for them.

Actualy, the fact that it became an article at [H] makes me think, it's an AMD sanctioned preview. Like the SB preview at Anandtech. So the launch might not be next week, but the card definitely exists, is ready and they are waiting for... ?

whats funny about this is Nvidia tried doing the same thing with the release of the 5 series ..to keep people holding out for fermi..
also price is as important as performance. So regardless how fast the "590" may be if its $1000 then only a small portion will actually buy this card and amd will continue to make money off their much cheaper priced cards.

whats even funnier is nvidia failed even more by waiting 6-8 months to shove it out the door

Based on that info it is infact 2 Cayman XT cores likely around 750-775 on the core / shaders ( my educated guess based on plausible power consumption ) and 1175 (4700) or so on the memory. Performance wise pending drivers it should be positioned between 6950 and 6970 setups with an msrp of 649-699USD ( help might be 600 but dual gpu cards always get marked up it seems )

At this point it will be who strikes first and who's more competitive. Let's just hope the 6990 isn't a 4870 x2 rev 2 ( extremely loud and anti al gore )

The guy that did the 6990 preview for Hard OCP said the card he received from AMD is different than this with a middle blower...
Murray Walker: "And there are flames coming from the back of Prost's McLaren as he enters the Swimming Pool."

James Hunt: "Well, that should put them out then."
