Is you E8500 a C0 or E0? If it's the latter it should do 4.3 - 4.4GHz on safe-ish vcore. Your 1800 MHz ram should do 1800 MHz, but without knowing model/IC's I cant advise some timings to try. Back it off to 9-9-9-X and see if that helps.

Skews are a trial and error thing, there's articles that tell you the principle of their operation, but as to what settings may help you, that only you can work out for your gear.

You most certainly can use 'low voltage' (by this I assume you mean 1.65v X58 kits) on the board - I'm using 2 x 2GB G.Skill Elpida BBSE kit at 1.62 vdimm for DDR3-1780MHz 7-8-7-20 1T. There's many P55 kits that should work too.

hey man, my e8500 is an EO Ive had it running at 4.33 480x9.0 v1.3 and was able to keep the ram at 1600 but not as fast as at 400fsb. Thats fully stable though without much playing around.

Ive tried loosening the timings and upping the voltage to get 1800 without any luck its on watercooling so heats not really a problem but compared to you guys im running higher voltage on my ram 1.98 but the nb is stable at 1.54. I just think I got a bad set of dominators but they rip at 1600.

Thats good news the low voltage ram works on our board. Any recommendations for 4gb @ 2000mhz Thanks for the help

I have stability at 366Mhz FSB default multiplier
I will push it some more over the next few days, the key is to actually use a bit more DRAM voltage, but not so much on the NB.
So far games, benchmarks, Linx, OCCT and Hiper Pi 32M are all stable... even Just Cause 2 as the Steam Client update resolved the issue (apparently memory corruption was resolved in a steam client update, since then I have not had an issue with Just Cause 2.. even with the mild 3.3Ghz OC @ 366FSB).

Right, hopefully that resolved it, if you are stable with everthing else wind it back up and see how it goes.

    Thanks
I worked my way up to 375FSB and everything was stable, then went for 390FSB. Was 3dmark Vantage Stable, but got instant Linx failure (Linx stopped unexpectedly not enough free RAM)
Perhaps a bumpage in VCORE from 1.25V upwards is required?
Not had any crashes, but will tinker with voltage over the weekend.
    Thanks for your advice

Hey again I just wanted to ask a few questions.

On our board how far is the safe overclocking voltage limit on the REX for 1.65V ram

Do you guys use load line calibration? mines always been disabled but I heard some people use it.

The ram I got listed above wouldnt post at anything above 1800mhz would that just be incompatibility or should I RMA it?

    Thanks for any help.

some REXes only like particular straps, if possible cool the NB actively (gains far more stability) I ran my Q9550 at 3.8 with 1800mhz C7 rams daily at 2.1Vdimm (Micron DGTR).

You can't define a safe ram voltage limit... some ram chips don't mind, others go down. And even then coz someones says eg 1.8 is no biggie, doesn't mean it works. If you set it , you are responsible. I'll try the Gskill Flares on the REX and see if they can do 1800C7. Keep in mind that with 4Gb, you might need to alter some vital bios settings like NB voltage and co.

Personally I always used 1.375VCore with LLC on with the Q9550. ram perfectly fine at 3.8Ghz... CPU is still alive and so is the board...
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Well guys I think I have finally achieved the impossible.

    3.6Ghz 1600FSB QX9650 with 8GB @ CL7!!!

It was difficult, thank you to all of you who have helped in this thread. A big thanks to Alien Grey for providing me with a BETA/Alpha BIOS for the Rampage Extreme which boosted my 3dmark06 score by 1200 points! (and eliminated the dreaded microstutter!)

    EDIT SCREENSHOTS

Try to run vantage without Physx on John, see if the CPU holds up ( now the GPU did most of the work ), let's go 3.8 or even 4ghz !!

congratulations on a nice stable overclock john, Is there any chance I can get that BETA/ ALPHA bios off you... I think micro stutter explains some of the symptoms that Ive been having.

Which BIOS, 0002? On my board that BIOS didn't work most of the time, whenever I changed the tREF value. Or is there a more recent beta BIOS?

I can hardly believe the BIOS gave you a 1200 points gain in 06, that's a huge jump, are you sure everything was set to the same values?

I don't think that's possible with the BIOS multiplier issue that he was talking about.

The BIOS that he's using is BIOS 0002 and you can find the link to download it here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...&postcount=298

It boots with the selected multiplier, just gives a VID error detect here, it's like pressing F1 all the time at bootup...

It needs a power off/on just like changing memory timings and it doesn't do that so the best way to change tREF is to do a Clear CMOS, load your overclock profile and than change tREF.

I understand what you are saying Don Dan, but here is exactly the same system configuration (drivers, settings etc), but with the last official BIOS

My guess is 002 BIOS contains a compatibility fix for either 8GB or GTX 295 as the difference in results is quite big.

Just thought I would upload some Linx fun..

Here is some Vantage with Physx disabled.

I do not think I will try for 3.8Ghz as my CPU is right on the edge (temperature wise and probably voltage wise too!)

I will upload settings later today (screenshots of the BIOS settings)

    Hey all!

I bought fev mobos witch is dead.. Ofc one is RE since i writing here about this
So i found one broken component on it and here is a pic of it. Now i only need to know what component is that and if someone knows its value it would be great help! (Marked red in the pic) I cant look it myself so good when its already BLOWED away from the board (Only black PCB left on that place?

The pic (If this works, if not then i upload it somwhere else)

    Hi guys

Xtremesystems' Guru Alien Grey has found an amazing tweak which may help you achieve higher overclocks.
To summarise Gigabyte P45 boards which can get pretty high clocks have a default MCH Read ODT of 11, yet our boards have a MCH Read ODT of 8.

Sadly due to ASUS' BIOS design (or lack of), there is no way to change this value... however Alien Grey has discovered that you CAN change this value using a tool called Bar Edit.
You can download Bar Edit from here. I believe this tool is written by that really clever and helpful Felix, the author of Memset.

Once you have installed Bar Edit you will need to restart your PC and follow these simple instructions.

    1) Open Bar Edit
    2) Locate memory address FED14290 (you can locate these addresses by scrolling down the list).
    3) look in the column 0C for a value of 778
    4) Change this Value to 77B
    5) Click Write
    6) Close Bar Edit

Your MCH Read ODT should now be 11T.

By the way does anyone know where I could purchase a replacement NB passive cooler to fit on this board?

Anyone else tried this out yet?

I am wondering if you have any advice on cooling the NB, my RE passive heatpipe has somehow broke? (the glue wasnt very strong and the bond wasn't that great).
Was looking for some sort of heatpipe which would fit on the existing mountings?

I could repair the passive heatpipe cooler, (and have done a repair with thermally safe Epoxy), but it has not don my temperatures any good
So I am probably going to have to scrape the passive accessory pipe and thing of a better solution?

I contacted ASUS support, but they say that the accessory passive pipe is not available separately....which sucks

    Curious...

is there any way i can make it so that you don't have to press F1 at startup if you don't use an air cooled system?

i'm on water and would love it if there was a way to switch that off other than pluging a fan into it that does nothing.
