If we look at the pie, I wonder what is the pie share of amateur members (crunching at home) compared to professional ones (crunching at the office, company servers, desktops etc.)
For what I know Hypernova and trn-XS are in the amateur category, and if only them, then the ratio would be:

    Amateur: 41.3%
    Pro's : 58.7%

But others may be amateur which would improve the ratio.

As far as I'm aware, XS is pretty much ALL amateur crunchers.

And most of the top producing amateur crunchers are members here or frequent here. Hypernova is the top amateur, myself and biker are next, everyone else in the top 25 daily output is crunching with company/university computers.

Not so. My personal rigs are quite capable of top ten output. The limiting factor is living in Commiefornia with it's own Cap and Tax system for energy use. If I lived in Texas or NH, pie would be on the menu everyday. As it is, pie should be on the menu for a week to ten days. Today is the 1st so I fired my idle rigs up about 8:00 last night.

Small bump. Hopefully it will come up a little more. A bigger slice of pie is always relished. More entries in PV jail.

Someone dumped a load of hexes on me... what's a cruncher to do?

Also my power bill is going up 20% in a month's time so I will have to scale back
as there is *no way* i can afford or justify nearly £200 a month just running crunchers...

If it is getting to the point that I cannot afford to turn on the hot water for a shower because of these 11 rigs I am running then I guess it is time to urgently get professional help

It's all MM's fault. I was content with forced semi-retirement till he contacted me Christmas Eve day. He sang the praises of the new Sandy Bridge chips and now I have 4 of them.

    Nice output Biker!

Maybe you could pipe up the crunchers to heat your water?

    Don't

I have been plotting that one for weeks...

Simply not feasible due to lack of space.

    Ahh! I misunderstood.

Tonight's pie. 7 slices are all awful thin.

It is really a hard fight to keep the crown. trn-XS is a very challenging competitor.

nonsense I only have 16 hexa's and a 2 quads running, and at an average lower clocks than you. My farm does seem to be a bit more problem free and I also never shut anything down; even if I'm away from home for a month or more; slow and steady wins the race

And I have Biker breathing down my neck these days

Still if I look at the daily results we are very near. This means that you are more efficient. Maybe you run Linux which is faster, I am on W7. Maybe you run one project only like HCC with short cycles and very fast validation time. I have 17 Hexas dedicated running 24/7. Then I have 1 Hexa running 24/7 but not exclusive, and 3 quads but which run intermittently.

Hey, that's MY idea - I came up with that a few years ago, ask anyone in IRC
Still planning on doing that, if and when I ever get to build my own house. Right now it's not looking that likely to happen in next few years though...

Oh, and sorry for my lack of output these past days and weeks, most of my Duallies have been encoding Bluray Movies to h264, which takes a while even on an SR-2 (about 25-35 FPS depending on quality settings; takes probably a day on a "normal" system )

Either we're encountering the forum limit or Sparky did something wrong
