Second, raise IOH voltage, it could be too low for 210MHz BCLK.
Then, I would play with CPU and VTT (QPI/DRAM) if still unstable.
Give it a try and report back.
I would be very careful with dram voltage at 1.65. Anything over 1.65 can damage the memory controllers on the chip and when I set mine for 1.65 I can get spikes over that so be careful and watch for voltage spikes. Just a heads up

I apreciate your concern but it's more about difference between VTT and vDIMM to be kept under 0.5V then keeping vDIMM under 1.65V.

I use 1.65V daily and go up to 1.75 when benching on air/water, no problem whatsoever.

1.65v isnt needed in all cases for ram. My modules are rock solid at 1600 Mhz, 6-8-6-20 1T at just 1.59v and 1.275 QPI.

I have great ram, a great mobo, and a rubbish CPU that spazzes out at 4.2 Ghz, and requires a hefty 1.33v to work at 4 Ghz.

I plan on keeping the CPU until it burns out or is completely obsolete though, I cant be bothered with buying a new one for a chance of a better overclock / lower volts, nor do I want to downgrade my mobo to sandybridge.

My Corsiar wants 1.65 stock at 1600. I run at 1875 but I am sure I can get a bit more with more vdimm.

Ive tried getting mine to run at 2000 Mhz, but it just wont work. The maximum it is stable at is around 1850 Mhz with 8-8-8-24 timings. I have 3 dual channel kits specified with 2133 Mhz and 9-9-9-28 timings @ 1.65v, but I think its my CPU that cant handle over 1850 Mhz, nor 4.2 Ghz because of how voltage hungry it is.

Cas 6 at 1600 Mhz is really good though.

Hopefully when Ivy Bridge is released, there will be some nice price cuts on X58 CPUs. If I can ever get a 6 core Gulftown for <£250, then I will, otherwise I'll keep the 920 until 16 nm CPUs are out.

Has anyone managed to get Wake On Lan (WOL) to work on this board?

When turning the computer into sleep mode (S3) it just restarts and turns itself back on straight away.

Attempting it from shut down mode (S5) the computer just doesn't respond.

    I have done:

Enabled Wake from S5 (under chipset features)
Enabled Boot from WAN (under chipset features)
Enabled Wake on PCI and PCIE (under power management)
Enabled exactly the same in the device configuration under windows

I am using the WOL under Tomato to send WOL packets but nothing seems to work!

    Thank you.

I'm running the OCzs (see signature) which are rated at 1.65v. When I try to set that inthe bios, I get a warning saying that 1.65 will damage my CPU. Does anyone know why? I'm running a 980X - first time out with this chip - usually run a 920 or 930.

Also, have any of you managed to get a stable 5GHz+ OC run in LinX for the stability club? Is anyone trying - other than myself.

    Thanks

Ahhh I wonder if that is it... I have BIOS 1102?

I got it to work... from my iPhone I switched my computer on from S5. Then I tried it again... didn't work. I unplugged the computer, plugged it back in and then it turned on by itself... strange!

I may try flashing BIOS chip 2 with 1005 then.

    Thank you!

1.65 V is the max recommended voltage to RAM when Vqpi is on default.
The technical reason is that memory controller is powered at Vqpi and it is physically connected to RAM.

To avoid that Vram comes back to IMC, destroying it, there are protection diodes that block the Vram voltage.

If the difference between Vqpi and Vram is less than 0.47 V, the diodes are closed but over 0.47 V the junction opens and Vram can go to IMC, destroying it.

If you want to use Vram over 1.65 V, the trick is to push Vqpi to mantain Vram>Vqpi difference less than 0.47 V.

Following quote is as much documentation you will ever need, and that I ever had on that topic.

When you set in BIOS to 1.65V it is actualy set to 1.65625 or similar, so it's over 1.65 and they (Asus) are just warning you that if you kill you CPU, it's not their responsibility.

There are two Gulftowns in Intel 4.5GHz & 5GHz LinX Stable Club, but picture is there only for one and the other is missing. There is one Bloomfield over 5GHz too.

I would try do 5GHz LinX stable, if I had phase change unit (read: money to spend one one )

Well it wasn't the BIOS with the WOL issue. Both 1102 and 1005 do exactly the same.

Sometimes the WOL works sometimes it doesn't. Appears to be random.

I think it is either an issue with the board/BIOS or something is going wrong at the router level. I will try just connecting a laptop and my computer via a hub to see if it is the router that is distrupting the magic packets.

Any other suggestions would be greately appriciated.

BTW I am using an ASUS RT-N16 with Tomato build 54 installed.

Well it is the board that is at fault.

I have at last got it to WOL from a cold start (plug the computer into the power socket > WOL from iPhone).

The Solution: Enable ONLY 'Boot from PCI' and 'Wake from S5 state'. Before I had 'Boot from LAN' and it didn't like it.

However, if I shut down the computer using Windows, WOL fails to wake the computer.

So now I have problems with Windows and WOL! If I put the computer into sleep mode, it automatically turns back on!

    PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

It was the ethernet drivers. I uninstalled the latest Intel ones, Windows automatically installed the ethernet drivers and it worked fine.

When I turned the computer off using the Intel drivers, the ethernet indication light went out. Using the stock Windows ones, the indicator light stays orange.

WOL now works perfectly, cold start, shutdown/S5 and sleep S3. The automatic wake from sleep was due to interference from mouse/keyboard. Removing their ability to wake the computer in Device manager fixed it. I am now able to turn my computer on from within my own LAN and over the WAN. I can also remote in using my iPhone over the LAN/WAN using Remotr -very good app by the way.

Strange that the official, latest drivers from Intel disable the WOL ability...

    It works

but only with slow mode enabled, which is unusable for 3D. The problem is QPI link speed for locked multi CPU's like your 920.

This utility is vista sidebar gadget in AIDA64(Everest), when you enabled you'll have all this information on your desktop.

    Thx for reply..

I don't know why, but enabling slow mode means loosing stability for my proc.

Brama, Donmarkoni, thesaucier - thanks for the info on the memory voltage.

I'm making a run in LinX now 5.022GHz. About 3 hours remaining.

    donmarkoni,

Phase change is not that expensive. I got mine for less than $700 including shipping from Taiwan to California.
