I know how much you all love Hardocp, but Kyle just deleted a post of mine asking if he were to sit down and play BC2 online w/ this card, would he really be ok w/ 20 min, 40 avg. He deleted another user's comment about a request for a higher target framerate as well. Not finished, he banned me from the video card section.

I really liked the color scheme over there too. Oh well, guess I'll spend my time somewhere else. As for the reviews, only HC and AT have been worth reading.

Nice review, there's only one suggestion i will permit me, why on high AA test, you don't use 1920x1080? on a certain way i find more logical to use 8xAA on 1920x1080 instead of 2560x1600.. why don't add this too? ( i know it give more work.

That's a good price, but I'm wondring if i should wait a few days fot the MSI Twin Frozr. It got same price, and is comfirmed delivery 1. Feb.

And why the hell would the ship it with a VGA plug?

but yea, Red isn't exactly Nvidia's color, and I wish OEM's would realize that. The cooler reminds me of a WC radiator, but it's not WC, so it had better produce some incredible temperature drops over stock. The stock cooler looks pretty damn beefy already.

I'm not getting this for the ITX rig due to wonky power figures (and the <150W 6870 isn't far behind most of the time) but thanks for the pricecuts

Black PCB on that and a pair of 2 Gbs would be an instant buy for me. Why cant they get these cards right?

And lol, I didnt even spot the VGA :x

2 DVI + Mini display port, black PCB + Phantom cooler!!! Do Gainward have a team of monkeys planning their mid range cards or something?

So its still the Asus one for me, if the price drops to <£200.

talking about a product that way, yes for sure, how else would you call a new product a clear winner without seeing any review with facts

btw just seen some reviews, not a clear winner to me just a tie against 6950 some win some loose depending on game preference, only 560 looses in power consumption, while the guy I responded was already dreaming about OC products and there very low power consumption.....guess what NOT.
Sure 560 transistor and die is now a bit smaller then ATI who cares, we buy only the product (price/performance/power) not the production cost.
    revie
BTW OC'ed for more then 25 years, done my share, as I mentioned you'll get over it once you see your life passing by running infinite loops to see if it is really stable for an additional microsecond or FPS.

sure if you would ever compare the 6870 against 560 its also a 15% price difference while the 6950 1gb is only 4% more expensive then 560. I would call this a hardwarecanucks review failure
there is only one correct statement all nv 4xx series buyers have been so screwed the last few months on both price/performance and power and finally there is back some decent gpu competition.

hah! 560s beat 6970s? shows what a letdown the 6900s are...

EDIT: to be clear, 560s CAN beat 6970s, and they are close enough to see them as competitors...
thats embarrassing for amd, very embarrassing... they were in a great position to put pressure on nvidia, but before they were in the lead they already got comfy and cheap and cut down their next gen, while nvidia did big steps and caught up...

    They did.
Just in time for the launch of Nvidia's GTX 560 Ti card, AMD decided to cut the price of its HD 6870, HD 6950 1GB and Radeon HD 6970 cards. In addition to the price cut, AMD is working on a new driver that should launch tomorrow, January 26th.

AMD decided to cut the price of its Radeon HD 6950 1GB and 2GB models to US $259 and US $269-$289. In addition to these two, AMD has also cut the price of its Radeon HD 6870 card to US $219. In Europe these prices will range from €189.99 for the HD 6870, €225 for the Radeon HD 6950 1GB and €239.99 for the Radeon HD 6950 2GB card.

In addition to the price cut, AMD will release its new 11.1a Catalyst driver tomorrow that should improve performance of its Radeon HD 6800 and HD 6900 series graphics cards. According to our info, the improvement should go as high as 30 percent in some cases. Of course, we'll hold out our judgement until we see some tests.

The new prices should be affecting the retail/e-tail pretty soon and it is always nice to see some competition now that the GTX 560 Ti is happily selling at €229,90.

That will be added once the testing system is revised later this year.

No. The HD 6870 only gets to that point through rebates which are due to end on the 31st. In addition I think may will agree with me that the GTX 560 Ti is a better all-round card than the HD 6950 1GB. I'm not just talking about straight up performance either; overclocking capability, power consumption and noise all factor into that as well.

If the HD 6950 1GB were the same price as the 560 then we would be talking but at this point I see no reason for the $10 price premium.

in case heat cooling and 560 consumes more..... not less
    http://www.anandtech.com/show/4135/n...-250-market/16

both have equal performance, some win some loose, so overall tie no reason at all to select one over another just a personal preference. That kind of noise difference will nobody notice, custom designs on 6950 will also arrive sooner then later.

right now i would be recomending a 560 because of that price difference and similarity in perf.
overclocking a 560 seems to be better (until you can unlock a 6950 1GB to 6970 if ever possible)
noise was as expected since you compared an exhaust only cooler to one that dumps heat in the case. ive never been really happy with amd stock cooling
temps are bad because of the lackluster AMD cooling
and power consumption is related to temps and i think we can see them come closer with aftermarket cooling

but i wonder if the price set by AMD was to just milk the market a little, and we can expect a >20$ drop in a few weeks now that we have reviews of both cards. AMD generally likes to be the perf/price winner because nvidia is all about the features, but right now its a very well rounded card.

my favorite has to be the asus 250$ direct CU, but i would have to see more photos first to see if i can fit in my case.

Yea, but £203 for the Twin Frozr is good, other models are around the £230 mark.

I'm expecting these to go down to £180 for standard versions at the least, and £200 for the custom cooled / overclocked versions because the GTX 460 will still be priced around £150.

Yeah that's a good price. My local dealer got good prices too (at least when I compare it to $-exchange rate and $250+), they seams to be selling it cheaper.

They are already cheaper than they should be, but I don't think we have seen the best deals yet.
I won't settle before we hit my $199 prediction
