S3 standby has ALWAYS been problematic on overclocked systems; it was designed for a normal stock running system (a mom and pop system), and it's always up to the board manufacturers to cater to overclockers who want to use S3.
Old 975X boards had issues resuming from standby until bios updates...I think the issue back then was either vcore or RAM timings reverting to default after standby ...
