You are not permitted to clean your pump.

At least according to the warranty info I noticed on the MCP35X as I was browsing around aimlessly (things you do when not feeling too well):

    Important warranty information:

Users are advised that disassembling the pumps, including for the purpose of upgrading the housing, automatically voids our warranty.
    http://www.jab-tech.com/Swiftech-MCP...p-pr-4750.html

So this in mind, if you aren't changing pump tops how are you supposed to properly clean the pump?

Doesn't affect me right now since my MCP355 is probably well out of warranty now and I've changed the top on it anyway, but it does make me wonder if I technically voided the warranty on it as soon as I opened it up to clean it when I got it.

Laing makes them. But, if you buy the rebranded one, you RMA through the rebrander (Swiftech in this case).

This is called covering yourself... in reality, despite what written policy is, you take things on a case-by-case basis.

Are they referring to all 35X series (35X, 355, 350) or just the 35X model? Just gives them an excuse to sell some special 'pump cleaner' liquid since people now can't open it without voiding their warranty. :P

Hope so. Not being able to clean the pump is annoying. Most people do that at least once a year... I wouldn't want to get RMA denials because of this.

DangerIsGo: it's swiftech policy regarding all pumps. IIRC mostly having to do not about dissassembling for cleaning, but to not use with 3rd party tops, which they suspect are culprits in several pump failing cases & RMA.

You don't need one. The four self-tapping screws that hold the top on are a known screw torque. When backed out, the effort changes enough to know that the pump has been opened to void the warranty.

Now, recently someone had used tap water in their loop and the only way to clean the DDC pump out from all of the nasties is to disassemble the pump.

    oh?

Is that so? In either case, I don't think it matters whatsoever. The retailer/manufacturer/rebrander has no way of telling if you opened it. They don't even have a breakable warranty sticker thingy (I'm NOT giving them ideas here..)

I think it was distorted by your picture taking abilities and the un-needed use of a flash.

If they are black torx drive then yes, they are self tapping. In fact, if they have a section of the first 4 threads missing, they are self tapping regardless of color/head/drive type.

Um no, they certainly are machine thread. That's what my Petra top is tapped for, that's what the stock top is tapped for, and that's definitely what the screws are.

Yeah, my Petra tops are tapped for machine screws too (as are my EK, and Koolance tops) but, all my screws that come with the pump have definitely been self tappers.

Well, to put on the aftermarket tops, one would have taken out the original self-tapping screws to begin with.
