Sorry for the Necro of this thread....
I was a little bored tonight and decided to try OC'ing my 6870 again.

I can't guartantee this will work for anyone else, but it seemed to help with my card...

My idea was to keep the ratio between the GPU and memory as close as possible to stock proportions. On the 6870 this resulted in a ratio of 1:1.167 (GPU/Mem, (900/1050))...

FWIW, it actually got me a little more on the clocks and managed to run for 5 minutes of Furmark torture test without any problems (I shut it down).

My clocks using this method were 1010/1180 (roughly 1010 x 1.167 for the mem), voltage was set to 1.27 using TRIXX.

If anyone else wants to try this method, I'd be interested to see if it gets you a little more on your clocks...

    It helped me!

I got my Sapphire 6870 up to 1000Mhz clock speed BUT needed to run roughly 1.225 volts. Temps went up to 91-92 (stable Furmark 10 mins) though and I didn't like that. For now running 950/1150 stock volts, Temps sticking around 86-88.
I'm not sure why my idle temps are so high, still investigating. Any tips on that would help. I read people idle at 55ish, I've re applied some Noctula paste and it helped 1-3 degrees, not much.

I've registered my sapphire and got the latest version of TriXX uploaded to tinyupload.com below, enjoy:

Thanks for uploading it for me, much appreciated.

Do you have your fan speed set to 100%? The results reported by others could be due to their fan running at max speed. Also remember that bypassing the limit in CCC disables powerplay so that's another contributing factor.

More details on the bypass? Not sure what that is...

Ok I figured out my high idle temps.... dual monitor LOL. Disable one and idle temp instantly goes down to 50c!

Anyone else having issues with Trixx and crossfire? It's only applying the clocks to one card here even with the sync checkbox ticked

    hell yeah !

this tool works on my 5850 2gb toxic cards that use a non reference pcb !

people used to say this card's vrms weren't possible to mod !

damn, gotta love the free 10%~ speed boost

oh, and about the crossfire crash I had that too, seems to be a problem with the ultra low power state on the second card, had to go in the registry and disable it:

    taken from other techpowerup:

Post a screenshot of GPU-Z for each gpu to show if ULPS is active on your rig/cards.

If it is active, you need to disable it in the registry:

    1. open start/orb menu and enter "regedit" in the search box and press enter
    2. if prompted, click "yes" to open the registry editor
    3. when the registry editor opens, select/highlight "Computer" at the top of the left column and then when it is selected/highlighted, click "Edit" in the top menu and then click "Find" - or just press "Ctrl + f"
    4. When the "Find" window opens, make sure all three "look at" options are selected, and in the "Find what:" box, enter:
    enableulps
    5. click the "Find Next" button to search the registry
    6. If it is found, change the value from 1 to 0 to disable ULPS, then click "Find Next" again to continue searching the registry
    7. Repeat the last step until no more matches are found in the registry, then close the registry editor and reboot your PC
    8. Done - open GPU-Z and notice that ULPS will no longer be active

Basically ULPS, ultra low power state, can cause the second card to idle down into ULPS (ie. pretty much turn off) and that then causes problems when in crossfire configuration when windows tries to use that second card - which then ends with a BSOD/crash."

Disabling ULPS will ensure both cards are enabled and running as they should when in crossfire configuration.

Does anyone knows a program to unlock voltage control on the GIGABYTE GV-R685OC-1GD? I've tried everything and I can't find the solution (if there's any).

    Yeah, GB is very intelligent.
Stock versión = Overvoltage+OC = OC Beast with great cooling
OC version = stock voltage and less OC... No matter what, the cooler won't do magic here.

    That's ridiculous.

I have the crossfire freeze trying to clock with either Trixxx or AB and ULPS is disabled as far as I can determine. Posted about it at TPU as well (W1zzard wrote Trixxx for Sapphire btw) but no one has responded as yet.
