Very nice... yeah, the mounting pressure & extra fins as copper instead of all aluminum are the differences on those two, makes a difference though I gather from Hardwarecanucks review offhand .

EDIT: Looks like mounting holes are different and require adapter for most heatsinks? http://www.overclock.net/intel-mothe...therboard.html Xigmatech S1283 I have doesn't look like it would work then... . Downloading the UD5 manual but it's going quite slowly .

EDIT2: Looks like 1156 bracket would work for me... for mounting to the P67A-UD5: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835233038 am I correct? (Gigabyte manual still hasn't finished!)

    Btw,
new beta BIOS is out for P67a series.
Thanks Stasio, I've played with all the BIOS's & didnt find anything that helped me. Im on F2 because I'm too lazy to re-flash after I brick the BIOS pushing the board & having it restore from the backup F2 BIOS.

Still running on the XP 32-Bit drive I found I'll put one up when I change it back.

What I'm saying is the limit where the cpu multi becomes totally unstable no matter how much voltages you push into them.
2600k in Jan 2011, I'll be away for work for a couple weeks early jan then when I get back I'll grab one.

Hope it is the BIOS microcode... I've pumped 1.8v!!! into mine & best I could get into windows with was 4995MHz. It ran LinX stable though so I'm sure thats not the limit of the silicone.

Very little to play with see my screen shots of Easy tune.

just curious, seeing how these SB's seem to do 4.8GHz at such low voltages
Yes mate retail, I think 1.245 is what the Giga boots at but it increases with more clock speed.

P.S LOL about the centre heatsink.... no wonder it runs cool!!!!

Nice clocks there, what do you expect a 2600K to do with water cooling? I have read that D1 clocks better than retail D2 but then I read they clock the same , which is true?

6GHz but then I'm an optimist

    I think all the 2600's are D1

My moneys on the 2600K being the shiz... bit extra cache & HT with the shrink it will be nice & cool. It may or may not clock better but HT on will help rendering loads.

Did you try the hotkey to flash the backup BIOS to current version, that might save you from all that hassle, if they've enabled it already.

On bootup, with a latest BIOS other than F2 , press ALT + F12 where you would normally press DEL to enter BIOS. If it's enabled it should start BIOS recovery, and flash the backup BIOS with the MAIN BIOS.

Ok I was told D2 but I believe you, does that mean a D1 ES is the same as retail?

I managed to get my hands on a retail i7-2600K yesterday. Unfortunately, I don't have a motherboard yet, so I can't run CPU-Z... or anything else on it yet.

However, the text on the top of the CPU is as follows:
i(M)(C)09 (the M and C are in little circles)
INTEL(R) CORE TM i 7-2600K (The R is in a circle, the TM is superscript)
    SR00C 3.40GHZ
    MALAY
L038A660 (theta4) (Following the batch code is an elipse which appears to contain a small theta symbol followed by the number 4)

Hope this helps. Now I need get my hands on something a bit higher end than a UD4 or P8P67Pro to put it in...

F9 restores it but tbh F2 is fine... F3 etc dont get me anything I dont have already. Well one of them had a firmware update in it so it may help someone.

Alt + F12 not working guess its not enabled but it would be cool to update the backup bios, thanks for the tip

I must be mistaken then as I could swear I've seen non ES D1's

Super Pi runs..... someone asked, not optimal & tbh a tad slower than all the other times I've run them but its a start.

I went ahead and bought XMS3 ram its rated for 1.65V, so we'll see. Worst case, I eat a restocking fee and replace it with some Mushkin ram that's rated at 1.5V.

What I'm trying to figure out is whether I should get a slightly lower end board locally now (I can get either a P8P67Pro or a GA-P67A-UD4 from a local shop), or if I should wait until I can get a UD5 or UD7.

I really want to upgrade NOW, but at the same time, I don't want to be stuck with a MB that handicaps me. (I want to be able to SLI eventually, and I don't want to be limited on OCability either.)

Edit: Gigabyte has posted their memory compatibility lists, and the XMS 3 modules I have are on the list under the 3x2GB kit part number, so I'm pretty confident that the 2x2GB kits that I have will work.

Thanks Atragon... that helps a lot . I'm wondering about ordering a mid-range MSI board or something but I have a feeling that the UD5 once the pre-order period is done will hopefully drop to sub-$200 instead of the $250+ shipped it is at online now. I'm also concerned about being stuck with low oc'ability due to motherboard, and definitely want SLI capability... so been holding off so far. Boards like the decent-looking msi p67a-gd55 are already $165ish online pre-orders, so I don't think it's worth getting the UD5 when it's likely going to drop a ton by the time my 2600K would even arrive.

My chip runs PLL anywhere you put it!!! first I thought 1.6 was the spot but lately I've just left it at default. Remember we are not at the max of what these chips can do so maybe PLL will be something to play with.

Ah come on now just give in already... you know you won't be able wait.
Ryzen 9 on the test bench... Sometimes older generation/tech as well.

Heck, I'm not sure if I can wait to get my hands on a UD7, I might run out and buy a UD4 or a P8P67Pro to tide me over (yay for return policies).

Edit: Of course, I'm currently running an Opteron 165 with 2GB of RAM, so I'm a bit anxious to get up and running on something modern. (Amusingly, each stick of RAM for my new system will be as large as the total amount of RAM in my old system.)
