    BSOD While Installing XP

System as it now "stands"......... (Exclude all HDDs unless stated in text)

    CASE: Zalman Z7 Plus
PSU: OCZ MOD Xteme Pro 700W
    CPU: PII X4 1055T
    HSF: Zalman CNPS9900-NT
    GPU: XFX GTX 285 w/ Zalman VF-3000N
    MEMORY: F3-16000CL9D-4GBTD w/ Zalman ZM-RC1000
    HDD 1: Zalman SSD0032S1 32GB SSD (Primary)
HDD 2: WD V’Raptor 300GB[/COLOR] (Misc Apps etc)
    HDD 3: 2 x WD1001FALS 1TB (RAID 0 Storage)
    Optical Drive 1: Pioneer DVR-S18MBK
    Fan Controller: Zalman ZM-MFC3

Having some rather interesting issues trying to get the HDD loaded with the OS and it has been a total bomb. Originally was trying to do the 32GB SSD which was formatted NTFS and it seemed to not matter what I used (two different Pro & 1 Home) but it would blue screen. Began to think it might be a HDD thing so tried to do the V'Raptor.

The problem is it doesn't seem to do it in the same place and also had several "corrupt" files issues. However the one consistency with the V'Raptor is after it gets into Win XP setup (where it is actually doing the install I guess where it goes through all the BS on how great it is) and then somewhere between 10 to 20 minutes in I get...........

    What flavour of XP? SP3?

I'd try building your own slipstreamed version of XP, including all the service packs and all the updates you can find. I've had terrible luck trying to install old versions of XP (ie. pre-SP3) on modern hardware for clients, with all kinds of issues - problems almost always went away when I went and got my own XP-on-a-thumb-drive that I've built to include all the latest updates from MS.

Something else you might want to try - pull as much RAM as you can. Vista and XP occasionally crap themselves when you try installing them on a system with more than 2GB of RAM.

When you are doing the install, how many drives are attached?
Have the HDD 1: Zalman SSD0032S1 32GB SSD (Primary) only installed without any other drives and see if that works.............. if your still getting error's then look at your BIOS settings, the board should be set to default with no OC settings for the OS install.

    Thanks ppl!!

Okay initially two things I forgot to mention

    1. Pre SP1 copies
    2. New install on supposedly virgin drives.

I'll give the mem issue a go as I am running two 2GB sticks.....do have some lower spd ddr 1 GBs floating around and I give one those a try.....if I can find it!

@ SoulsCollective you are talking to a very software challanged senior here.... when you say "slipstreamed" do you mean purchase a copy on line and update or load the current copy I have on the thumb drive and then update??

@Andrea deluxe okay going noob on you here....would that be in the bios??

@dctokyo ......only trying one drive at a time and everything is at default in the bios.

What Is A Slipstreamed Installation CD?
Think of your installation CD as providing a stream of data to your computer to set up the operating system. On the day XP was released the data stream was up to date and current. As months have gone by, upgrades and fixes have been issued to make your system more stable and secure. SP2 or SP3 is a compilation of those updates and fixes. Slipstreaming 'slips' these new bits of data from SP2 or SP3 into the 'stream' of data that the original CD provided, effectively merging the two into one XP Installation CD ROM. A slipstreamed CD is used just like any other Windows installation CD. Without a slipstreamed CD when you go to Windows Update you might find many Critical Updates are needed.
    .
You just need to install a full version with SP2 or SP3 on it................... SP1 will not work I think

Thanks dctokyo, sadly, for me, looks like you right. Have XP Pro SP1a coming but you say it has to be 2 or 3 correct? Need to pickup some media and see if this software challenged senior can figure it out!

Have another system thats needs attention anyway.........

    Hi again jedihobbit

Please read this link, it is not so hard to slipstream a CD. It is for SP2 but to use SP3 is the same. You can always just do SP2 and then once the OS is installed then just update to SP3 later.

    Thanks dctokyo!

Well the mem and GPU are out of the equation. Both primary sets that would be used in this build each ran several times through memtest without errors and tried the onboard vid with same results.

It is Official.......Win7 Ultimate 64bit loads without issue. So guess that means I will definately have to slipstream my old copies of XP if I ever expect to use them again!

However now I need to learn "the new way" sooner than I wanted.
