My First DICE Benching Session with ktek

Me and Ktek have decide on doing Dry Ice benching session not too long ago :P
So,without further ado, here is the story

Start from 18th December 2010 first.
We does not manage to secure our Dry Ice supply so first thing is to find Dry Ice first..This had lead to a big adventure/Found one place called Zeta Kilang Air Batu which is suppose to be around Selayang Pasar but we(me,my father and ktek) have drive around selayang for 2 and a half hour or so and never manage to find it.With some info from my father friend,we knew that there are a place on Cheras Pertama that sell it so we decide to get it from there. So,after closing my father shop,we head to buy 6kg of DICE.
So,finally we have our DICE supply.

    Now,onto system spec:
    Processor:Core 2 E8600 Q820A349
    Motherboard:Abit IP35 Pro Unmoded
    Ram:Team Xtreem DDR 2 1066mhz CL5 D9GKX
    HDD:WD 320GB SATA
    GC:Gigabyte GTX460 1GB OC
Pot:Vivi's ex pot /Ghetto Rig Thermal Probe(Thermal Probe inside pot + Use multimeter to read out resistance to read out temperature)
Yate Loon High Speed 12CM Fan as ram cooler
    OS:Windows 7 x86 Ultimate/Windows XP SP3

Then,we start by insulate the motherboard. When we done,we boot up and nothing happened....We proceed to tear down and find out why.Turn out to be my noobie mistake..the Clear CMOS position back jumper is at Clear Cmos position..so noob of me.Of course, ktek make fun of me...then we assemble again. So,pour alcohol and DICE in and we start to bench
    The benchie done:

Motherboard went haywire after that.So we proceed to tear down again and there are water in socket. No wonder why this happened..After that,we go to sleep and we have some Dry Ice left still.Turn out to be there are a gap we don't seal between processor and socket cover that causes this.

Then fast forward to 19.12.10.We fix our insulation from previous late night session and continue on to bench. Also,we change the alcohol to the one my mother gave me.This is much better then the one ktek bring from penang.According to ghetto thermal probe, the alcohol ktek bring only goes down to roughly 0 C or so(from our guesstimate) and much lower on the one my mother gave so hence much better result on 2nd session.
The best result from this session:

Then we run out of Dry Ice

    Hwbot submission for best point:
    http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1093..._797ms?new=true
    http://hwbot.org/community/submission/1093...81_mhz?new=true
That about sum it up for our weekend extreme oc attempt. Not too bad i'd say but certainly not ultra good.
Credit to Ktek for coming to KL and being helpful/good company all round
Might do one more DICE session with vdroop mod

Nice start, it's really fun huh! It's true what they say, once you go subzero ambient overclocking just isn't the same afterwards

give 1T on the memory timings a whirl! if the memory likes it, it should help a lot .

Very true, sub zero cooling overclock is huge load of fun
    @rbuass,will try next time round
@cold.nut,don't think the memory can handle 1T
Anyway, will have more result soon this weekend

    P35 + E8600 = EPICFAIL...

When having a hard time finding DICE - get a single stage cooling. that's how I started and learned about clocking on cold. For DICE you should be able to go 5.5+ at least EASY on E8600 so way to go buddys

soem subzero done by me, but just subzeri air cooled rig @-5°C in the garage!

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1555311

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1555855
corrupted cpu-z file ? i don't know, but the validation was for 5110 mhz, vcore (--> the bigger the better )

and some old Micron D9GMH OC with ax xilence cooler on it blowing with 1200rpm the -5°C cold air on its HS.

    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=1555333

reached also the 1316mhz, bu then no time for validation and.........

youre gonna want to get used to dice and start looking for cheap dewars on ebay. around 30-40L and ask search google around your area for ln2 welding supply gas. call them and find out how much they charge for ln2. dont screw with cascade. its a headache. you want a 24/7 rig and you bench rig. when you want to bench its easy as getting your container mounted right and get your dewar filled and thats it. see what you can find. the cool kids club is cool but it can always be cooler. dice is rad and its great to get your feet cold. but eventually you are gonna want to be really cool.
