Nice cards for the price, AMD is doing great, keep up the good work, both camps look good this time, but we need a bit better pricing from nvidia.

Yes... i'm hugely disappointed, disappointed that i won't get a blow-job after paying as much as i did for a 6970![]()
Short of that, it does pawn (performance/ price wise) a GTX580 in major dx11 game benchies as per hardocp :P and true... if 6970 was a letdown, then what would one call NVIDIA's GTX480/ 580? Apparently people are saying, OCUK sold more 6970's in under 24 hours than GTX580's from launch to date![]()

Well, i need nothing more than a HD6970 and i'm a pretty happy customer for the power in the punch it packs inand yes, $120 in savings was a major consideration. I did wonder about buying the GTX580 with the accelero cooler for about $580. Given that, the savings are unprecedented (close to $200).
Now the funny part... this is only my second graphic part which i've bought. The first was 7600GS, yes A LONG TIME AGOThen i got a 4870 (free) for close to a year and then a 7900GS (again free) and still in use since 4870 was taken away. Now 1920x1200 in all games seems playable
and i bought this alright

Based on nothing!!! Did you just ignore what I had posted. I had explained my reasons. There was certainly not nothing, considering other information available at the time and rumors at the time. The delay and non availability of the card was also a reason for this since everyone was expecting the card in november.
And my recent change in shift has is because performance numbers have shown disappointing results and the large large number of cards they apparently have.
People take a dump on nvidia like its cool and do it in a far more trolling manner. Its very consistent and it is in a Nvidia thread, why don't you hammer on them when their attitude is far less realistic and they are doing simply for the reason of trolling. I never use emoticons or even egg people on directly. I have never said anything directly bad about a company like AMD or NV or Intel sucks. I say negative things about both companies's but only when there is some evidence at the time to direct it as so. I say positive things about AMD when they merit it as with any other company.
As I said, anytime I say something controversial I explain my reason's clearly. I am not doing it to troll and if a person wants an explanation I will give it to them. I do not simply say something obvious without thinking about it. My often long responses show that and I do give thoughts into what I say.
I was hoping they could make something 5%-10% faster than the gtx 580 at 450-500. I would definitely pay that 100 dollars more for 20% more performance. As it is, it is just AMD version of the gtx 570 with better performance in 2560 and lower or similar performance everywhere else. I will admit I was wrong on the price, but its priced simply appropriately against the competition. I expected more from the 6970 as did everyone else.

I don't see a card that trades blows with the gtx 580, it consistently loses to the gtx 580. It trades blows with the gtx 570 though.
You had to expect a more. 50% + bigger die than Barts and a new architecture. I don't even think that gtx 580 is that fast, hence why AMD could be able to beat it. It wouldn't be a super easy task but I thought AMD could do it considering they were using a new architecture. The bare minimum I expected of the 6970 was it to beat the gtx 480(by a tiny margin) and it just does that(the bare minimum) and that it. With Nvidia lineup and AMD lineup and their respective pricing, Nvidia doesn't have to lift a finger with pricing, which to me marks a disappointing launch. AMD prior launches for the last while had Nvidia dropping their prices left and right. They did it with barts, but it doesn't look like they are going to do anything with the high end.

Don't count on miracle drivers to save the day
Only the latest 8.851.1.0 brings performance tweaks and improvements.

That what I thought about the gtx 480. In the end, it only got 3 or 4%. It was 14% faster than a 5870 initially and is now maybe a few points better than that.
For driver improvement I will try to be hopeful because I still can't see AMD screwing up this badly, but reality probably says for a single card, maybe 5% at best and that is not going to happen overnight.
AMD obviously wanted this card to be faster. A beefed up cooler, larger chip and 2x the memory(which is faster and more expensive) and likely a more complex PCB to deal with the power and they charge less than the initial prices of a 5870. Considering how little money they made on the 58xx generation, it doesn't make sense for them to decrease their margins.
If antilles can be 600 dollars and have a non reduced spec'ed 6970(I don't care about power, I bought a ax1200 for that and it is still in the box waiting for a new videocard), I would consider buying that.
But as is, I can see even NV competing pretty well and releasing a deal card to deal with antilles.
Something tells me we won't be seeing so much improvements because the card only has 1536 shaders or 384 real shaders even though I want to believe there is more there. Frigg, I bought a ax1200 and a corsair 800d for a new monster videocard and it has been sitting here for the last six months, nothing really warrants its because we haven't really had any real monster cards(the 5970 was close back in the day, but the specs were reduced like crazy).

Well, I'm pretty much sold on the 6970.
Usually I would buy an XFX in a heartbeat, but 2 things stopping me:
1) Only 6970 on newegg for $380.
2) "Warranty void if removed" stickers covering the screws for the GPU backplate. Which means if you want to watercool it, you quite possibly are looking at no warranty.
Sapphire is looking mighty tasty.

new architecture .. and fermi is just a full fermi of what we were supose to get 1 year ago ... so amd still has room to improve ...
i wouldnt discount it so fast
but on the other end nvidia allready milked their arch .. and the added performance was due to the added hardware on their 570 and 580 ...
so give amd some time
ocuk said it best, outselling Nvidia by a ton.
