Charlie article. Better late than never, and boy he delivers. Take it for what its worth.
The secret of the AMD 6900's second switch
Easy enough, it swaps the shader count. The 'normal' count is 1920 for a 205W 6970 card, and the switch opens up the full force of all 2520 shaders. The reason this switch is set to 'low' is that between the clock speed advances, 730MHz/1920 shaders to 920MHz/2520 shaders, it blows the card through the 300W cap for PCIe cards.
Hahahahahahahhaha![]()
It's a joke. Check the end of the article

whoa!
I was going to wait for 6970 to compare it to 580 before i make a purchase but after some research i have found out that GTX 580 does not support bit-streaming pass-through for Dolby TrueHD or DTS-HD Master so its 6970 all th way. Whats the deal with that? the 460's have it
Also you dont need 7.1 for good audio, 5.1 is enough with a good setup.

funny thing is that people who claim that unlocking SPs is possible will take it as a source and simply ignore that it's a joke...

Ahh...yeah.....NO.
All reviewers test their cards differently, in different areas of the game. Perhaps they just tested a more graphically intensive scene?...you don't know that.....do you?....it obviously isn't safe to compare different benchmarks even though they use the same settings.....results differing from other ones could mean anything......like I said before, it's inconsistent because they could have gone into a more graphically intense area.....and what about the hardware that they use? the CPU, ram? Drivers? OS?
Nice try at pulling a fast one though, but it won't get by me.

The secret of the AMD 6900's second switch. I just red the offical review:
DUAL BIOS option for safer end user updates:
-Setting 1 unprotected for user updates
-Setting 2 protected as factory default
The overclockworld would look completely different without Oskar Wu. Take me back to the ABIT & DFI era !
