Ah.. it's not universal PCI...

y'see, there are 2 versions of PCI-X - a 3.3V one and a 5V one. Most modern PCI cards are universally-keyed to fit into either type - the connector has 2 'cuts' that look fairly symmetrical. Yours only has one.

I *knew that it had something to do with the 3.3V & 5V thingy! just didnt know how to explain it!
