my point is that people want to buy things around this time of the year.
if someone wants a new video card, the 580 is their only option.
if we had some real news on the 69xx then it would make people hold off.
at this point i don't see how it would hurt to release some specs, unless ati has no idea what the final specs are yet..
See here's what's funny. Most people agree that the 580 isn't in high quantities, but it's an enthusiast card so it doesn't matter...

And yet, they aren't selling out despite having low quantities, in a buying season, and when they're targeted at enthusiasts who are going to snatch them up anyways regardless of price...

So why does AMD need to worry again?

Simply keeping Cayman under wraps is creating confusion amongst buyers. Yes, it annoys them, but it keeps a lot of the non-fanboys from jumping to Nvidia simply because there's something out around the corner. The fanboys have snatched up the first cards, but now the other buyers wait... which means Nvidia isn't getting those sales yet.

Yes, if AMD were delaying 6+ months like Fermi, there'd be a legitimate beef for AMD not giving numbers. But that's not the case - it's less than a month's delay and it apparently isn't hurting seeing as how 580 isn't plentiful in many places in Europe, and what's available in America isn't selling out either

And ever since R600, AMD has kept their lips sealed on whats coming. You know what other card was a big unknown and was stunning despite being quiet up to release? RV770. And since RV770 was 2 gens ago, and AMD has adopted a tick-tock strategy with their GPUs, this silence probably suggests a good thing

i don't remember nvidia putting out real specs on the 480 or 580 more than days before launch, now the 480 had lots of fakes

where are the gtx 570 specs and benchmarks

i think some here think if amd puts out specs now it will drop 580 prices
but i don't think amd wants nv to drop thier prices right before the 6970 launch

Can you all please take the 580 talk to the 580 thread and stop creating pointless fanboy wars here.

AHAHA... my friend, your bias is funny, I'm sorry. There are no cards in stock -> AMD has nothing to worry about because people can't buy cards. There are cards in stock -> AMD has nothing to worry about because the fact that there are cards available means nobody is buying them?

You remind me of a SKYMTL post, at that time I had laughed thinking nobody would actually say such a thing, but here you are, saying the exact same thing.

No you don't quite understand, i'm saying that AMD doesn't have to worry because worldwide sales of the 580 aren't apparently an issue. America isn't the only place you look at to see how the market works as a whole.

Some places in Europe and Asia don't have any stock, some do but they're apparently not in high quantities. Now, if demand were that high to keep cards out of stock, why wouldn't those other places with limited quantity sell out?

Now most places in America have cards, so the issue is this. If America's got that supply and supply is high enough for so many types of cards, why don't other countries have cards, esp. if demand is so high that they're selling out there and not in America? On the other hand, if supply isn't high, then these cards should be closer to selling out across the board.

So the overall issue is that there's no gain for AMD to reveal their hand right now. You reveal your hand, and Nvidia drops their prices, spurring sales of cards that other people would not buy. Or, you reveal your hand, and the 580 looks like an even better buy and people start buying the cards.

AMD gains nothing from either of those choices.

Sorry if some 580 fans can't afford their new toys and need AMD to drop prices

The first line saying that after respinning/doing silicon... err what? How can they respin this close to launch?

Then lines about performance... Chinese is tricky but an english of translation of "not 580" can mean "580 cant" etc.

    .
Have you missed the fact that HD 5970 still remains the fastest card on the market? Is AMD worried that Nvidia finally got close?

    I guess not.
