SSD raid problems using the 6.0Gb/s ports on Asus Rampage III Extreme

I have heard from various sources that the Maxell controller used for the 2 x 6.0GB/s Sata ports on the MOBO have had serious issues with SSD devices. i.e. Crashes, BSOD ,data loss, poor performance, etc.

Has anyone had any experience with this? Does SSD Raid 0 work OK with the other 3.0 Gb/s sata ports on the Intel controller? (SSD configured at RAID 0 or RAID 5)

Does anyone know of any issues using the 6.0Gb/s Sata ports for RAID 0 with regular SATA drives such as a 1TB seagate?

    Thanks!

    hi man

Intel raid control is better of maxel , in performance and stability. In this moment all most popular ssd are sata 2.0, therefore your performance won't decrease with intel raid controller

other important point is that your maxell controller is linked to ich10r with 1 500mb/s line with more latency, I'm not sure at 100%, but in this case (if it uses 1 500mb/s line) your performance is limited respect ich10r because more ssd can give performance more high in raid0 that 500mb/s

There is the c300 which is the fastest read SSD on the consumer market, it breaks the sata2 barrier thus needs sata3 to run to its fullest extent, but then that is sequential read and write times which are large file. Small files 4k read/write you don't need sata3 for, actually on intel's chipset it is faster because intels ICH10R is very finly tuned. The problem with the marvell controller is its firmware and the fact that mobo manufactures do not update their mobos with the newest firmware.

If its an sata3 HDD run it in ICh10R it wont gain a thing from sata3.

most problems from the sata3 controllers come from raid 0 of SSDs, HDDs seem to work ok, but if you aren't breaking 280mb/s read or write there is no point.

yes however 2 c300 in raid0 are limited with maxell because it's linked with 1 lane of 500mb/s, in sequential read can break 500mb/s

I don't know if rampage 3 extreme uses 2 line of 500mb/s for maxell controller, but i think that, like a lot of other mobo, it uses only 1 lane

in this case it is less speed of ich10r, because the max bandwidth is less large of ich10r

    is it right ?
