    5900XT vgpu guide (lotsa pics!!)

first things thanks to everyone who posted in the other thread here
(i ripped and chopped a few pics).
this is the vgpu mod for the 5900XT. enjoy!!!

    Materials:
    Soldering equipment
    5kohms VR
    wires

    1. locate the gpu voltage regualtor on the back of the card

    2. locate the gpu voltage measuring point

    3. check the voltage in 2d and 3d. 3d should be .2v above 2d. (in most cases it should be 1.23v 2d 1.43v 3d) by putting the red lead of the dmm on this point and the black in the black hole of a female molex.

    4. turn the VR to about 3.76 kohms. i used the two pins furthest from the screw.

    5. this is the pin you solder to.
its a LOT easier to tin the wire first then heat it with the soldering iron on to the pin. due to a lack of soldering experience i didnt and i has to lie the wire touching and hold the solder and iron... this was hard. tin the wire.

    6. you may want to set up the ground wire first. the ground point is shown above on the first pic

    7. as usual, it goes

    8. double check for shorts. i had one so i had to resolder onto the FB pin.

    9. mount the vr for easy on-the-fly tuning
finished product should look something like:

    10. triple check everything, then boot up and check the voltage in 2d and 3d.

    11. tune away, but watch those temps! on a gigabyte 5900xt 1.6v should get you 510 core stable. mine never gets above 50° with present cooling.

woot a response. some guys tried the vemem mod on the other thread but it didnt seem to give much benefit, evan at 3.4v. im not going to do it, but its pretty much just the same as this but with the other vreg chip and measuring on the smd caps underneath it

That is because u must increase cards IO voltage for mem increase to happen.

So, are all 4 of those leads ground points, or just the center 2 you picked out?

About to start vModding my card up again, and those certainly look easier to solder to than what I HAD been using (and I need 4 grounds, so....)

just the centre two. i didnt know which pin on the vreg was ground and those are nice and big. all i did was look at the plug side on and followed the pins through the back to those points.

you can solder multiple grounds to the same point im pretty sure, as long as the resistance is the same between them all (ie. one wire doesn't touch another BEFORE touching the ground point)
Jethro dead link, but do you mean like a vbt mod is needed on a vdimm mobo mod? set to double the resistance?

ok, which pins are involved in the vddq mod? (for the 5900XT as it uses a different pcb layout) this i assume is to stop the card reverting to stock voltage under load? believe it or not this was my first ever voltmod
ok link is working now ill have to read.

DO NOT use these mods for the XT since they're different PCBs.

its not the same layout exactly but the principle applys. Find vddq ICS circuit. ICS's of the cards nature can all be shunted at pins 11 and 14 i believe just to give an idea.

    thanks

IM not responsible if you fry your card, but i can assure u that the layout of the ICS's are very standard and u can look it up to verify for yourself.
